So you don't supplement anything Jeff? Just IO? Do you have a calcium reactor?

I tried early on to add Kent Marine Additives when needed. When I set up my tank Krish I started with Oceanic salt which had a real hi Calcium levels I had to add Super Dkh to bring up the alkalinity and raise up my Ph I did this for about 4-5 months. At that time I switched to IO Which seems to have allot higher alkalinity and Lower Calcium level and i would test with my salifert kits and on both Tanks at about 8 days after the water change My Calcium would start to drop So My 75 gallon tank was pulling allot more calcium for the SPS than my 150 LPS tank. I can get away with water changes of 25 gallons every 8 days and not have to add any thing And my SPS seems to be doing OK and I have a Derasa Clam I got from Barry last November and this guys has grown about 3/8" on the shell since then.

No...I don't have one yet, but I will be setting up one. I've never quarantined anything ever because as you can see, I don't add much. Nevertheless, it's about time.

I'm almost out of it. Infact today and tomorrow may just finish it off and then I'll be switching to the 2 part B-Ionic which I already have. ohh please Jeff don't say that !!!
ME wants some orange monti and i haven't added it because i worry i'd have to add Calcium to my tank and that it'd die.
I don't dose anything.... just water changes ... so please do'nt tempt me !!

Gabby, don't fret too much over that. Orange monti's are really cool and seem to grow like weeds. What is your Ca level at now? I would bring you some orange monti when I head to Seattle for the BBQ, wherever it is gonna be at.

I have always wanted to have a little piece but whenever i read about Calcium reactors and adding Calcium, then i worry and with all the softies i have i feel like they'd also try killing it .

K...As some may already know, I ordered the lights today. PFO retro metal halides (500 watt). I also made my first doseage of B-Ionic last night and my parameters changed quite a bit! I thought coraline didn't grow fast! I guess it does...I've gotten tons more growth on the bottom today and it's un-real!

Anyways, here are the new numbers. Any thoughts? I guess I will have to add have the doseage tonight to see what the numbers look like tomorrow because as you can see, the full dose shot things up a bit. But here they are


Calcium - 425 (was 405)
Alk - 3.43 (was 2.63)
dkh - 9.6 (was 7.4)
Mag - 1290 (was 1190)

Whatever you do, DON'T put corals in there, cause they'll suck up those additives! Now that you have calcium at target level, you wouldn't want to ruin all that hard work by adding corals.
