I just set my tank up today. Cured live rock. Getting more on Thursday. He only had 19 lbs left. But he lfs said I can always add more, without disturbing anything since I don't have live stock in The tank. Don't laugh its nothing great. But I'll upgrade parts soon. Had a vortech. Tested it out. Krish You were right. Sand storm....... Ugh. So I got something at the petsmart.

Ok so ? For anyone. I got this from a lady who down sized her reef tank. It's been left out she said, but that all I need to do was stick it in my tank. Should I acclaimate this with my tank water then stick it in. Ideas, suggestions would help. Maybe an idea of what it is

What is it? Lol. If it's live your tank more than likely isn't ready for any livestock yet much less corals until you've been set up and running for a bit and you run some tests and things remain stable for a while. The fact that you used cured rock doesn't necessarily mean you wouldn't experience some die-off while setting up and also, the fact that you will be adding in more rock later I'd hold off as you may experience another cycle then. If it's just a dead ornamental piece that will not deteriorate water quality then I don't see a problem putting it in. Sort of like those fake corals and plants people use. :)

Oh it was alive in her tank. She said she spent a good 85 bucks on it. But like I said its been in her garage for two weeks, and in mine for maybe 3. So I would assume anything on it is dead. It does look as though it had green algea on it at some point. Cause its not completely white.

I also did some water testing. I'll do it again tonight. And start my data collecting of it, And post the readings tonight

Sounds good. Testing is important because any traces of ammonia or nitrite will be harmful/toxic to any fish etc that you add. Also, it's usually an indication that your tank isn't cycled yet. Also, it's through testing you can dial in your numbers getting salinity, calcium, mag, alk etc all within the right range as they will need to be dialed in and stable for when you add in corals. You don't want everything fluctuating all over the place which is why corals are usually added to matured stable systems where the success rate of keeping them alive is higher. :)

Yeah its pretty straight forward, but there are a lot of tunnels, and lots of pieces that have holes for little critter

Ok this is how I rearranged it due to rocks moving. It's a bit more stable, And won't need to worry about any live stock disappearing

Ok calcium is 480 ppm, my dkh 179ppm, I'm assuming that's a little high, how do I bring it down?, phosphate is .25ppm nitrite and nitrate is 0 ppm

Anyone know of a good ph test kit, alk test, and I was reading that I need test kits for stronium, and iron is this true.
