Ok guys I've decided to start my tank thread. It's going to be slow, meaning when the budget allows, but it should be very interesting, and be loaded with pictures. So hope I don't bore you.

here it was......

here it is all empty

after I removed the acrylic sheet I had on the bottom of the tank to support the bottom paine of glass

This is the sides of the sump section of my jbj, very easy to remove. It was some kind of durable adhesive film on it. Just raised an edge and peeled off.

finally got under the back baffles of the sump. I have small hands but jeez it was hard to fit my hand inbetween the baffles to cut the silicone.

And its out :D

side by side. It's made the tank 3.5" wider or longer.
Only thing I have left to do is to clean it up better, and take the silicone off along the edges, to re-silicone the tank. There will be a ton more pics of the progress

You definitly will not bore us. Following along and looking forward to more pics.

Nice job Josh.
I wont get board watching you redo your tank. I think Krish did something like this a LONG time ago.

Actually he did. its half the reason I decide to do it. And because I wanna have the ability to get a better skimmer, and more room in the tank.

these really came in handy, I didn't even use any Goo gone, nothing but a paint scraper, and a blade.
This is what I have left to do, which will be tonight

Nice strip down! I did this to an aquapod before and made my own backwall. :)

not pointless at all.
its helpful to others that might want to take on the same or similar project.

@ Krish- I know buddy, your tank is what gave me the push to do this, except I won't be doing that with this tank, but I have another surprise for everyone in a couple of weeks :)
Ok guys so since this aspect of the tank is done and I will update with more pics of me re-siliconing when I find black silicone that's aquarium safe.
Let's talk pipe diameter
So since I'm aiming for 35-40 times the flow rate in the tank I'll probably get a 1200gph return pump and use a ball valve to tune in the return so that I can keep a good varity of coral. Should I have 2 or 1 gravity overflows, and at what diameter should the returns be. I've also been looking into overflows and am leaning towards the stockmans overflow, due to its ability to keep the water drain quiet. Unless you guys have any input on that area. Any help.

I cant remember what the heck that overflow is called that everyone is using now days, is a modified version of the herbie. Id use a herbie overflow or something similar. That way you have the quietness of one pipe being on a siphon and the other pipe as your safety.

Ok guys sorry for The late update got busy with work, kids and family. But here's the updated pics

Ok silicone is done on the inside.

the next pics are areas of the silicone are not smooth, maybe uneven pressure on the silicone edger.

The next step is drilling the tank. That happens next week.

i'm excited to see where this goes. Looks like you have a lot going on. out of curiosity, what prompted you to remove the silicone from the tank and replace it?

@swifter-

I had an acrylic sheet over the glass to give a bit more support to the bottom paine of glass. The clear silicone I used adhered to the original silicone of The tank.
@Jesse- I Just bought petco black aquarium silicone. Works good

I hope there is an update soon because I have never seen anyone gut a jbj like that. Looking forward to seeing how it develops and what lighting you pick.
