:evil:So I had a family emergency and needed to leave for Cali for a week. My boyfriend stayed just so he could take care of my tank. Well I came home and my sun coral was dead, my mandarin was dead, and my protein skimmer is broken! Now I know this is not all his fault and I still love him but I am soooo discouraged now.

Well "kmeans" hang in there and we'll all hope that this will be the worst thing that ever happens to your reef tank.

Best of luck, Todd

Well this can be difficult but you have to prepare for such things. I guess this was a lesson, maybe get him to learn more about your tank for next time. I'd even make a through list to help out, you know like even procedures. Get a couple of people involved to help as backups!
Sorry for the losses.

I didn't think I would need this considering he lives with me and has helped me with the tank from the beginning, but I have learned my lesson for sure and I am writing list now so I am prepared next time their is an emergency!

Thanks, I am sure it will be fine. So does anyone have any good recommendations on a protein skimmer for a 65 gal? I was looking at the Octopus NWB 110.

SWC 120 cone..or the SWC 160 cone if you plain on going bigger in the future id go with 160! I have the 160 and kick's azzzz!

WHAT!!! he broke your skimmer???

string him up!!!

....btw, HOW did he break it..as in physically smashed or it just wont work??
maybe it can be fixed?

Ya I thought about stringing him up! No he did not smash it, it just stopped working but he tried to fix it. He bought a new pump and it still does not work. But I am pretty sure this skimmer is actually from you. The guy I bought the tank from said it was one he got from the "skimmer whisperer". But this was like three years ago.

for 65g I'd do the SWC cone 160, IMO, the 120 isnt quite large enough, besides, only $50 difference.
You would know more then i do (the name explain's it) yes the 160 cone is worth every penny, i wouldnt look back to any other skimmer for your tank! Trust me :)

Hey Kmeans,

I have a new skimmer coming in the mail tomorrow (swc 160 cone)

If you need to borrow a skimmer for the short run while you get things worked out, you are welcome to use my old one. You can pick it up after work tomorrow. It isn't that good of a skimmer, but better than nothing while you wait for a new one.

If you're interested, send me a pm. I live in the CD near 23rd and jackson
