Beaker Bob

Dude I would love to see your whole tank shot of corals. Looks like you got awesome stuff in there!

Beakerbob.......

What type of close up lens did you use on the Olympus 3040??
Awesome zoos! Great shots! and welcome to RF!

Thanks Tike!

The Olympus 3040 is a great camera! I had to figure out a number of ways to get closer macros than what the camera normally allows. ...and do it as inexpensively as possible. I had some close-up filters already and just had to get the CLA-1 tube and a step-up filter ring. Here is the information you need to do this.

Items needed:

1. An Olympus CLA-1 Lens Adapter tube. This screws onto the camera and allows you to use close-up filters.....$17 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...=accessory_detail&addedTroughValue=257058_REG)

2. A step-up ring, 43-55mm. This ring screws onto the CLA-1 adapter and allows you to use 55mm close-up filters....$16 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...=accessory_detail&addedTroughValue=257058_REG)

or $8.50 here (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-43-55mm-Met...ryZ30040QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

3. set of close-up filters, 55mm...$27 here (http://cgi.ebay.com/55mm-1-2-4-MACR...ryZ15220QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

This is one time that I spend $300 on ebay and it was worth it. It was a little scary when I got these guys. I have been reading about all the horror stories of zoanthid predators. I found sea spiders, red crabs, sundial snails, all over these guys. Along with some very large unattractive brown polyps. I tried Mucho's reef dip for the first time. It worked wonders. The spider were all dead and I just picked off the sundial snails. The only thing that made it was the red crabs. I just had to pull those out along with the brown polyps. About half the polyps opened the first day and two days latter all the polyps opened. Just a side note: the zoanthids came wrapped in damp newspaper. This damp shipping method, seemed to work extremely well. Here is a little more then half of what I got (one month later).

Can you see now?

Beakerbob, Nice Yellows! How long have you had them? Did they start out yellow or morph to yellow?

I have a few polyps that have started to morph to yellow after being continually irritated by a clam.

wow this must be the most divers coral of them all so many colours i havent seen at any of my lfs i only have a few colines but am a bit wary were to place them i think one might be to close to a goniporea or to touch them now, i went to work on a night shift after playing wiht my tank for awhile and i swear i was high on coral stings depth preception was all weirded out thought id add that as i couldnt to the warning page. i even heard of a fish that produces a natural LSD and that alot of ppl in america keep saltwater tanks just for this purpouse, only heard this today wonder how much truth there is to it and what fish it is heres my zoo's all australian and growing in to the rock well

JasonD,
Thank you! These started out this color and so far have maintained their yellow color. Have had them for about 3 months now.

Here are some cool new ones that I picked up the other day. The green ones look like the "Green Bay Packers" and the reds look like "safecrackers" except for the green skirt
