Don, what 2 part DIY is that from? looked in the library didn't see it, another board?Would ?? the purity of Dri-Z air also.

Wrightme, good ?? maybe Collin will chime in an answer that, know there are 2 types of CA used but don't recall what happens with the stray molecule. Having CRS syndrome is a pita some times, have to go back an reread .

I think its on RC. Dri-Z-Air is Peledow. The peletized version of dow flake.

Thanks Kevin the SPS guy. I have always wondered about that. Maybe if I had taken chemistry instead of auto mechanics I would be better able to think today. So if my obsessive compulsive self does biweekly changes I've got nothing to worry about. Thanks again. Steve

Sorry Guys. I've been out of town. As for the Chloride ion. It stays. Chloride ions are non-volatile. It will stay in your tank until the universe fades...well, maybe not that long...but you get my point. It is there to stay, for the most part. These sorts of things affect the balance of the ions in solution. If you continually add something that doesn't get used, it rises in proportion to other things.

Mostly, this doesn't hurt when talking about sodium and chloride and so forth as they are the main bulk of sea salt anyway. However, if one never changed water it might become an issue over a very long time. Just change water fairly frequently. I do mine only once per quarter. This helps to keep things balanced.

To get more technical and answer another aspect of the question. Calcium and alkalinity should be balanced. Alkalinity is for all intents and purposes added in the form of NaHCO3. Ultimately the CaCl2 and the NaHCO3 will give CaCO3 to the coral and leave NaCl in the tank. Something like that anyway. Thus you won't ever get unpaired chlorides building up for ever. Also I think the coral must give up a couple protons (H+) when it uses a calcium. This participates in some fashion.

Best Regards...C

Thanks Collin, good to know this is some of the stuff WC's take care of!

Thanks again
