thanks that shot was from about 6 months ago, when the MHs come on today I'll try to get you better shot

Sounds good!! The frag build is going nicely as well. What did you paint it with?? Also, is that MFD you skinned it with?? :)

Thanks, the paint is ext. gloss white laytex and yes I did use MDF it's holding up well, two coats thompsons water seal four coats paint

The tank is a 48x24x12 and came with 1" bulkhead for the overflow, I felt this was to small for volume of return flow using Mag 18 so made templet to drill oversize

you may notice four bulkheads installed two 1" are for returns then 1" 1/2 for overflow and a 3/4 this is tied to drain line with ballvalve for water changes. Sump for this set up is 55gal tank domated by reef club member I'm using a MR-1 skimmer with MRC-2 collection tube

Things of my ever growing reef world, on 11/28 I started BRS Bio-pellet reactor on frag system so this be constant up of progess as of now skimmer has gone into overdrive, tank is very clear I'm feeding the pellets Zeobac
IMG_1051.jpg

also I'm in the prossess of start the DT on the complete Zeovit system so as usual lots going on at M&Gs reef

Thats what happens when you let Chris and myself know where the action is LOL

Oh yell getting ready to pull the training wheels off so figgured it was time to start climbing the steps to get on the pourch

this is true, took me three tries to find the perfect one the first two just didn't seem to see things my way LOL

I hear ya, to Honnest I got really lucky and my wife loves our reef system. The M&G stands for Marie & Guerry and she even goes to all the reef club meetings, I couldn't do all this with out her support

Ok then with all my systems there is always something new going on. I thought it be a good expearment to see the diffent growth and colors between MH and T5 lighting so I built a tank to tie to frag system using same sump to take water quailty out of the picture. One day while building a reef flat and waiting for the weldon 4 to set thought it would be a good time to throw another little tank together so here's the build, first cut all pieces
IMG_0951.jpg

once piece are cut to size I use a plastic scaper to clean edges and before glueing peel back about 1" of protectice paper
IMG_0933.jpg

IMG_0934.jpg

here's pic of how I square my edges
IMG_0953.jpg

here's a jig to say of how cut teeth for overflows
IMG_0955.jpg

here's a pic of tank day one and ready sit for 48 hours before water test

Nice work!! Looks good!! :) A quick question on your photo you posted on page 1 with your lights. Have you ever found that you had some spots in your tank where there are dark areas with you reflectors positioned they way the are running parallel to the front and back glass? The reason I say that is because I was always told the correct way to arrange those reflectors would be to turn them perpendicular instead, to where if you looked at the tank head on with the hood open, the front of the bulb will be pointing right at you which would mean the reflector would distribute the light to the sides of the tank and not to the front and back. Just curious as I always wondered if that made that much of a difference. I can see the logic behind it as with them arranged perpendicular, the light from one reflector would spread out and touch the one to the side of it and so on, but never really tried it myself so not 100% sure :)

Good ?, my lights are so bright my neighbor can find his runway to land his plane at night LOL. When I build reffectors I take into count hieght and width of tank, using lay out paper to find the ending anlge of reffector. the ones I built for my tank are spider knock offs. there is no dead spots and it's hard to find places for low light corals. I have 4' break and use polished stainless steel to make these

my neighbor really does have runway in his backyard
