I have a Mag 7 about 2.5 years old that I use for my top off from the basement. It no longer will pump by itself. I have to take the propeller housing off, it then starts, as it is running I put the housing back on and it pumps but will not start up again. I have ordered a housing and a propeller. wondering whch is the main culprit that is bad ? As usual thanks in advance.

I've had that same problem with my 9.5 and mag 7 and all I did was replace the propeller and the pump was back to new.

These are sealed units, the only moving part is the Impeller & the core, If replacing that doesn't help then you may have a bad internal coil. It may be more practical to get a new pump at that point, I know Eheims restart better than the mags & are quieter.

i have a few mags... the only thing that could be wrong is the prop.... others wise its no good.....

Holygral, did you try taking the ceramic shaft out and cleaning it of any calcium deposits?
