I have a 220 that is all cycled and been keepin a damsel and YT in there for a while now. I went to buy 2 clowns from my LFS, the clowns were acclimated for about 5hrs because i was tryin to catch the damsel, lol. Well i put both the clowns in the water and they loved it, they same all around and looked happy. They chilled out all day and then this morning i seen the little one but the big one is MIA. I cant find a body and she didnt jump on me. The YT and lil clown are happy, and my water parameters are good, only thing is Nitrate is at 5. Any suggestions or ideas?

Have you checked your sump or pre-filter if you have one? I've had fish go MIA and found them there. Also,if you are talking about your 220 with that huge pile of rocks then he could be anywhere. You'll be surprised at how good fish can hide. Hopefully he'll turn up soon un-harmed...He may have been frightened by the trip and is just cooling out somewhere (where you can't find) until he catches himself.

Thats Krish, im hopin he is just "adjustin" but he was so happy yesterday i wouldnt think he would be scared today????

And yes i have checked all the sumps and pumps

Thanks For the Help BuD!

No problem...Any rocks tipped over by any chance that he could be caught under? I'm sure you already checked, but that's all else I can think of.

Jiddy Jiddy.... it must be you :p it is interesting because I know someone else who got clowns from me, and one is missing....hmmm

I think the Hardy Boys need to combine powers with Nancy Drew for this mystery

I hope your clown turns up Jiddy. Don't give up yet, I know True Perculas that hide under rocks for weeks.

Gee Elmo, what a way to crush a poor boy's spirit (LOL) I just finished telling Jiddy that hopefully he'll turn up soon (giving him high hopes) and then you go talking about weeks  JK.

Jiddy, I hope he is just hangin' out. See if he might make an appearance when you feed. Give him time, I have a royal gramma I only see when I feed.

Ken, I never had one, but don't all Royal Gramma's hide most of the time? That's the reason why I never got one. I see them all the time, but heard they only like to hide.

Yea sorry Jiddy, was just trying to shine a little light of hope your way, but Krish put that out.

Ken

ACK! That happened to me yesterday! Poor little tyke is MIA as well. (See Elmo's post) I have looked in all of my cracks and overflows but no sign either. I hope yours turns up too! Sigh - I want my Clarkii to turn up happy and ready to spar another day with his brother.

Thanks Ken and Krish

And Elmo and Shauna, it was really wierd because i did everything excatly right and the little bugger was happy as can be, i hope yours comes up as well shauna to shed some light on my situation

Any 4 legged house pets?

Steve - this is a good question. I know if a fish jumps at my house, and happens to land anywhere the cats can get to without problem, it will become an easy meal.

Jiddy - hang in there, and hopefully it will turn up. The experience with my clowns (Onyx percs), when one happened to jump into the overflow, the other seemed "out of sorts" (the only way I can describe it). Out of the 3 or 4 times, the little one went into the overflow, only one time did it make its way into the sump. Its been awhile since it has taken some time in isolation....knocking on wood. And yes, I know I can cover the top with eggcrate, and I even made a make-shift cover for the overflow box.....but my luck = the fish would jump, and somehow contort its body to get over the eggcrate, landing perfectly outside the tank to become fish jerky, or an easy snack for the cats. I would rather it land in the overflow for me to scoop out.

Well Nikki i hope my wife or small children dont read your reply, :( :( -JK- I looked twice for the little bugger in the sump and overflow, for him to go into the overflow he would have to make it thru a locline valve at the end of the drain and swim in a sump with two pumps in it, one for skimmer and one for return pump......

Hey Shauna i have two theories;

#1 Elmo and my LFS are in cahoots and trained these highly intelligent clowns to swim back to their owners. Kind of like the dog in the movie "snatch" that would steal the diamond and give it back to the owner

#2 Our Moorish Idol helped the clown get into the filter and a pelican put him in his mouth and swam him to the ocean. Then the little clownfish was reunited with his father.

Hey Jiddy - Shauna here, I'm over at Kensn's house getting all sorts of cool stuff, he's wondering why you won't come over... :( he he, all the more goodies for me!

(In case you had any doubt, Shauna :p)

Ken i know you want to get a 1000th post soon, but havin other people is a sure way for these evil mods to set you back to zero like some other AWESOME guy i know

Of course my other one is missing today, did water check and parameters are fine. The YT is fine, and trust me she didnt do it. Since ive lost 3 small fish at night im starting to think maybe i have a creature in there??? But i bought my LR from a fellow reefer who never had any problems, and that was a 65gal tank. In fact the 3rd fish ive lost at night (blueReef damsel) was living in that tank for some time. so that doesnt really make sense? None the less i was going to buy a new clown today but i think that idea is done, lol. I dont get it

:( Jiddy I'm so sorry to hear that your clowns are MIA - you should head out to Washington and hit up Elmo for his Clowns! I still have one :)

Have you added any other live rock besides what you got from that tank; like from the pet store? You could have something like a Mantis Shrimp or Cirolanid Isopod.
