Wow, thats quite a thread.. When I get time Ill browse through a little closer.. FWIW, I am running 14 halides in a room that 16x20, and no Air Conditioning. Even when the ambient room temp is 94, I can keep my tanks at 84 with just fans and no chiller. One thing I have learned for sure in this hobby is that what works for one person may not work for another..

Definately...I always say the same thing here (what works for one person may not for another) That's why I never push my ideas or anything on anyone. I just offer what I have and let them make their own decision. Without the chiller, I can keep my tank between 80-82F. It stayed within that range for 1 solid week with the setup you saw. This happened of course after ordering the chiller, but I figured living in the Bahamas and knowing how hot summer gets, it's better I get the chiller for added security. As it is now, my chiller hardly kicks in. I still run all the fans anyway because my electricity bill has never been anything to talk about even with running 2 central air units 24/7. I guess I'll see what's what the end of this month after the fans and the MH's had been running for a month as well as the chiller:).

Rod, 14 MH wow what are you doing growing pot. Just kidding! Your electrical bill must be pretty high. Tanks at 84 degrees, isn't that too high. Mine got up to 83 and the star polyps wouldn't come out. Krish I've been following your thread on your new MH lights and the heat problems. I've been considering MH lighting but wonder about the heat issues. Do you think that canopy help retain a lot of heat even with the fans or do you think the fans get rid of all of it?

The canopy venting definately made a difference. My tank was 86F before even adding the MH's and I think a lot had to do with the canopy being all closed up. When I put on those fans that push the air out of the top of the canopy, it felt like kettles! Now that all the heat is out of there when the lights run, the air coming out of the top is much cooler. Venting the canopy definately makes a difference...BTW, Nice tank you have there:)
