Well I finally got the lights that I have been waiting for since before christmas! I am running a Sunlight Supply pulse start twin ballast w/ built in timer, and Pendants for mogul bulbs. The bulb of choice was the XM 10k 250w. My tank is a 55g soon to be upgraded to a 90. Well enough typing here are some before and after shots w/ the vho, and then the new halides.

I really like the fact that my tank is no longer pink. I will post some pics in a few weeks after the corals hopefully start to really color up nicely

Very nice Tom ... I like the look ... But then again the lighting looks very similar to mine  Let us know how those XM's work out for you. If you notice any changes in color over the coming months. And yes, I agree, non-pink is a good thing :)

Looks great Tom! I really like the XMs. They have been on my tank for a month now and seem to be doing their job. I think they look very similar to the ABs at a lower cost.

Couldn't wait to slap those babies on there, eh Tom? I take it I drove out of the driveway and you ran back in to play with your new toys.

Looks great and I bet those corals will really color up nice now.

By the way, thanks a million for the sump.

Tom, the new lights look awesome!!!

Glad to see that you finally got those babies, and can't wait to come down and see them in person.

Yes, XM single ended bulbs will fire on magnetic, i.e regular M57/58 ballasts.

I have 250 watt XM 20ks running on a regular m57 type Advance magnetic with capacitor ballast, and its great, albeit not as efficient.

Haha, you are so right Erik, I could hardly contain myself.

Eliyah, you should come down!

Plumber bob, I don't think I am using a HQI ballast, just a pulse start. At least I don't think its HQI

Cesar, I do not plan on selling the vho setup, sorry. I need it for me frag system whenever that happens

Hey thanks mojo, I hope they do. Most already look a load better, but I am hoping the tan and brown ones return to their former glory of your tank.

Thanks Erik

I do not know when that is going to be. I have a big job ahead of me on this stand. I am definately not in a hurry now that I understand the full implications of building this stand. I purchased the wood today and it cost upwards of 300 bux. I got some really beautiful birds eye maple and some nice walnut for this project.

Tom,
That is one beauty of a tank. I like it without a hood. Where did you get your walnut and birdseye?

Don

Hey Don, thanks!

I got my materials from AWI, I think that is what it was called, right there in tacoma. I got what I thought were some dang good prices, the birds eye was 6.50 a bf, and the walnut was 4.50 a bf. I also bought a 3/4" sheet of walnut ply for the top, sides and back. The front it going to be solid hardwood. It should be pretty sweet w/ walnut frames and a birds eye raised panel.

AWI ? Is that the little place down on Center St? Have you tried NW Wood? Its a small private mill between Pac ave and canyon.

This place was no small little shop, it is a absolutely enourmous wholesale place.

NW hardwoods is on my little list of places to check out. I heard good things about them. So I take it that you also recommend? Are you going to the meeting Don? I would definately like to meet you.

If I want to stay married for another 17 years I better not. My better half is coming home from Costa Rica the day of the meeting. No free weekends until my first grand baby is born in June. I'm doing a Brazilian Walnut cradle but I may have to jump ship and use Oak I miscalculated bf. I found a limited source of huge stairs from a Barneys tear out but its very limited. I would like to pick up one of the frags you have listed.

Not NW hardwood just wood. www.nwwood.com
