Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

I just researched that one a bit and found this on ReefCentral--it's somebody's measurement of OceanPure Pro params:

Mg - 1320 - 1350 mg/L
ALK - 11.2 dKH
CA - 450 mg/L
PO4 - None Detected

Mg level is good, Ca fine, PO4 good, but the ALk is too high for my use. I stick to salts where the ALk is 8.0 dhk or below (Seachem, Tropic Marin...)

thanks for the suggestion though. :)

I spoke with Eric today. Started working on bringing in Reefers Best Salt. It won't happen overnight but it looks like we should have it in 3-4 weeks.

Wow! That's awesome, Cy. :)

I don't believe that dKh number, but since you are using Zeo, you would want a low alk. When I test my batches, it is usually in the 9.0 range. My Mg actually averages higher, and Ca is almost always at 420.

Finally a store that will step out of the box.

First you went with Elos. All of their products are top of the line. Tanks, skimmers, food, and supplements. Too bad they haven't brought the salt into the U.S. yet.

Then you brought in the ATI skimmers.

Now you have the ATB line available for people to touch and feel.

Zeovit (KZ) is now on the horizon. You also have access to Bubble Kings/Red Dragons

It's about time a store in the Pacific Northwest realized that there are different products out there.

I've tried Reefer's Best Salt. Would you like the rest of my box? (I didn't have good luck with it.)

The new Tunze salt I would feel secure in using; Tunze has good customer service and cares about making a quality product. There are no distributors on the west coast at this time. Might need someone to organize a group buy

What problems did you encounter with the salt? I'm using seachem reef salt and so far so good but like you said the mg and k is low I believe. Are you dosing k while running the zeovit method?

Hi Jayson,

We keep running into the same wall with these imported salts. We have to bring in a whole pallet. We would love to have Reefers Best and Tropic Marin Pro but not if we have too sit on 24-36 buckets:shock: The new D-D salt has the proper levels of Mg and K. Plus we can bring in a few buckets at a time. We are really excited to try this salt. As soon as the distributors change their order requirements we will bring the others in. Although, if Jan wasn't impressed with RB we may reconsider:confused:

Do you have any D-D salt in stock? How much for a bucket? Also curious on the bulbs that are in stock for a 250w de? I'm looking for a good 10-14k bulb that is white w/ a hint of blue. The 12k is a little dim for me. Have you tried the ac 14k's? I'm not using actinic supplementation because I run just a single lumenarc over the tank.

Thanks,

Jayson

We have got to solve this problem Cy. It makes no sense to only be carrying the stuff from Central and ANW etc. Can't some LFS band together on a pallet? I am so busy with our store I still haven't got my head around it, but really, someone should pick up this ball. I'll do it when I can, but it seems silly to wait.

Hi Jayson,

I'm away from the store all weekend so I can't get you the info you need. I asked Chris to post but the store must be busy?!?! There should have been at least one bucket still available. $89.99. I'm pretty sure the AC and AP both come in 250DE and I would try the AC. I'll get pricing and availability when I'm home monday.

Jonathan,

I hear ya. I tried to split a pallet of TMP Reef with another store but it never happened and I haven't heard from them about why. Not sure if they changed their mind or if the wholesaler's shipment was delayed. With the Reefers Best it also comes down to demand. I've only had 2-3 people tell me they'd buy it. Now one of those people is saying they aren't that happy with it. Makes me ask myself if its even worth it??? Finally, salt isn't the most profitable item. Especially the more obscure brands. Is it worth it for a store to put the effort, capital, etc into organizing a buy of salt buckets only to be forced to match internet and make a couple dollars per bucket?? I can do that with Instant Ocean with minimal effort and it seems to work fine:) All of these factors have gone into my not making the newer salts a priority. That is what is so nice about the new D-D...one phone call and 1-6 buckets are delivered a day later:D
