The board of directors is looking to fill some positions and we need your help. We'll be holding a meeting this Thursday (6/24) at 6:30PM in north Seattle for anyone who is interested in serving on the board or just helping out with the club. An Evite has been sent to evryone on the PSAS mailing list. If you would like to take part in this meeting, but you don't receive the Evite, please send me an email or PM and I'll get you the information.

We have three positions to fill; Vice President, Treasurer, & Event Coordinator. Here is the description of the positions. All positions will take up 3-5 hours of your time a month. Maybe a little less on months where the events don't require as much work.

President

The President is responsible for supervision of the club and its officers and is required to fulfill the following tasks. Preside at all meetings of the club and the Board meetings. Appoint any special committees necessary for carrying out the mission of the club. Organize the necessary Board Meetings during the off-season to plan and schedule the upcoming season of events. Perform other duties as his/her office may require. Assist the Event Coordinator as needed.

Vice President

Perform all presidential duties in the President’s absence. Work with the Board to set the annual calendar of events. Organize topics or speakers for the monthly meetings. This duty will be performed in cooperation with the rest of the Board as well. Assist the Event Coordinator as needed.

Membership Chairperson

Perform all presidential duties in the absence of the President and the Vice President. Maintain up to date membership records and keep an accurate written record of the payments made by each member of the club. Maintain a complete email and home (as needed) address list of all members of the club. The Membership Chairman is responsible for maintaining the club’s mailing distribution lists, distributing the meeting invitation and handling any other club correspondence. Handle any incoming requests or questions from prospective club members. Assist the Event Coordinator as needed.

Treasurer

The Treasurer receives all money for the club and keeps accurate records thereof. Collect all money owed to the club and see to it that all financial obligations of the club are fulfilled. Maintain the club’s bank accounts. Assist the Event Coordinator as needed.

Secretary

Keep an accurate written record of the proceedings of all Board meetings. Minutes from Board meetings should be available to the membership at least seven days prior to the next regular club meeting. Assist the Event Coordinator as needed.

Event Coordinator

The Events Coordinator is accountable for the logistics of all regular events, including location, A/V equipment needed, supplies, refreshments, etc. The Event Coordinator can call on any other board or club member to assist in the preparation or setup of meeting as needed.

In an effort to not exclude anyone that may want to help run meetings or be on the board the meeting this meeting has been pushed back a week to Thursday (6/24). I’ll send out an Evite to everyone. Our goal it to not exclude anyone, but get things moving along so we can plan next years events. Please watch for the Evite today. If you don’t get it let me know.

I'm waiting on the minutes from the secretary. Once I get them I'll post a full run down. Here's a Reader Digest version.

We have all posiotions filled.
We have casual meetings scheduled for July & August
We have a tentative schedule for next year.

More to come ASAP!

Gordon

Thanks to everyone who showed up to the planning meeting last week. While we had hoped for more of a turnout, we did get enough people to fill the board positions. The positions are as follows.

President – Paul Hamby (fragman)

VP – Reed Moss (reedman)

Secretary – Jeremy Palenchar (jeremyp)

Treasurer – Colleen Frombach (jesshimom)

Event Coordinator - Steve Yong (Wolfesbane)

Membership Coordinator – Gordon Carlisle (Gordo)

A special election will be held for all positions in September. Club members are invited to make nominations via email to Paul Hamby.

Thanks,

Gordon

Gordon what exactly is the election in september for?? Is the PSAS electing a new board?? are all positions open???

thanks in advance

Mike

With the elections problem in April we want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to run for or vote for board positions. All positions will be up for election in September. Those elected will serve the remainder of the season until our regular elections in May. Anyone interested should email Paul. I'll also be sending out and email to all club members notifying them of the special elections.

If you want to nominate someone (or yourself) for a Board position, then go ahead and e-mail the name(s) and position to Paul. He will collect all of the names and we will have elections in September based on the nominations received.

I just want to say Kudos to those of you that stepped up to fill the posistions and much respect to the board for being willing to hold another election this September. You have made many people happy in your willingness to compromise and work out a means to solve what had become a deteriorating situation.

Many thanks for all your work,

-Erik

Well thanks Erik that's very nice of you. It was a little disappointing to not see more people at that meeting after all the interest. We are all doing our best to make it all work and be successful. So, if people are interested, they need to put their words to action! Hope to see everyone this summer.

I really can't make meetings during the week, so sorry to offer and not arrive, but it just isn't possible for me. I did put a dozen or so hours so far into that chat room... if you people would just use it : P....

-Erik

Well Erik, it just took some of us old people a long time to figure out.... and, I probably won't remember next week :) I like the click and you're there like normal chat. Ok, I better not give too much of myself away.

Colleen

I've heard about the chatroom work and it sounds impressive. Now that I am on a high speed connection, maybe I'll join in.

Thanks for your efforts on that and for being active in this forum. You don't have to carry a title or even attend meetings to have a positive influence on the club.

A few things an interested person can do include:

1) Submit ideas for meetings
2) Provide feedback as to what meetings you liked and what ones you could do without
3) Suggest tours
4) Open your house for the tank tour
5) Offer to help with the weekend meetings (setup, teardown, refreshments, ets.)

Just a few ideas.

Yea you have to admit that having that meeting in the middle of the week in north Seattle was a little tough for folks to make, that and announcing that no elections were going to happen I think really caused alot of folks to pass on it. I know it made me give it a pass.
Having been involved in the running of the club for the last 3 years or so I have seen the club go from like 5 members to over 300 on the mailing list, so it seems obvious that things can happen if the effort is put forward.
Last Jan or Feb we went as far as putting out a survey to the members to get a feel for what it was that the members wanted to see and have from the PSAS. The results were pretty stark, more larger events, more speakers, more vendor events eventually leading to a MACNA style event. Last year I think we pulled off some great meetings and the members seemed very satisfied with the out come, at the same time we put over $4500.00 in the club account to go towards future events and the ultimate goal of a macna.
Anyway I am not trying to dis anyone or be negative to anyone on the board, its great to see folks stepping up and putting thier efforts into the club.

take care

Mike
