We need to get up to get your some good FTS so you can really show this tank off Dave. Maybe tonight depending on what you and we have going on???

Thanks Krish,
Eric it is nice of you to offer and I will accept. It would be easier next weekend. Maybe before the BBQ
Did you get your flow equal yet?

No equal flow here but Mike came up and looked at it and gave it the thumbs up the way it is so that's good enough for us. Next weekend would work for the pics too.

I have got a few pics to post for those watching.
I assembled the side face frame for the stand reface and added a fake panel to some what match the door panels

Set in place. ready for oil and top coat

So the front of the stand is next. I went with two doors with the inset panels. The frame was already done. So I cut the parts for the door frames

Here is a look at the jionts

This stage is ready for glue up. Some finish sanding , oil, top coats

Hey Dave, its lookin good my friend and really like what you did with the inside stiles (closed posistion equaling outside stiles in width) also the overlapping rabit to eliminate light seepage from a sump if you ever go that route.

Cheers, Todd

Thanks Todd,
It dont look right if the stiles are all the same width. IMO. I didnt think about the light shine, I just always have done it that way. I think I saw it in a picture once.LOL

Some Shop time today.
I worked on the doors. They needed mortise cut for the hinges. ( which will end up painted flat black ) Couldnt find black butt hinges anywhere!!!
I use a piece of veneer to space the door in the frame
110_3175.jpg

110_3174.jpg

I sandwiched the doors between a couple pieces of scrap, so the router doesnt rock while cutting the depth of the mortise, I'll clean it up to the line with a chisle
110_3176.jpg

I hate to use butt hinges. I had to fill the original holes drilled, twice before I got the hinge set at the right height. Making a flush mounted door is a pain!!!
A little planing and a few small veneer shims and everything sits flush and closes nice.
A sneak peek. OOOOHHHHHH,, AAAAWWWWWW

Getting close to the big money shots.

Man that wood comes alive with finish on it dave. Can't wait to see it all on the tank.

A BIG THANK YOU

Krish I will be sure to post a finished set of photos when I am all done.

Eric, Yes it does. This wood has such a deep rich color. I really like it. That is just the oil coat. I will wipe off the excess and let it dry for a week or two before I put Franky's wonder goo on it.

How are your new inverts?

Everyone seems fine. The sexy shrimp are dancing about and the emerald crab quickly found a nook to crawl into. The 34 Solana is quickly becoming the nicer tank in the house to look at.

Thanks Crazy,
No need to be jealous. I am sure there are many things your much better at than I am. They say you need to devote 10,000 hour to anything before you are accomplished at it. I think I am at about 9,999 LOL

Eric,
Good to hear your new pets are happy. If you dont like the looks of your other tanks maybe they would look better in the bedroom.
But then your dinning room would turn into your bedroom. This could result in a viscous cycle, and you might end up sleeping in the garage lol

Looking very nice Peppie. Cannot wait to see the completed look with the doors and face framing in place.

Cheers,
Alex

Thanks Alex,
It is going to be a little longer than I planed.
I set the oiled stand faces in place and realized the door panles need to be darker. Since I have already oiled them I can not use my water base dye to darken them. I will need to let them dry and go buy an oil base stain to apply to get the right color. I want them to match the hood panels in color.
No big deal. Easy fix.
