Hi I was just wondering what would cause a fishes skin and scales to start peeling? Would it be caused by a parasite or a bacterial infection? I recently lost a sailfin tang, within 2 days it's scales and skin on oneside started to get a white mucus like build up on it, then the scales and skin started peeling so I moved it my quarenteen tank and the next morning it was dead. Now I see signs of scale loss on my sohal tang. The water params are alol good and everything else seems to be doing great.just wondering if there are any infections that would be causeing this and what I should be treating them with. I don't think I'll be able to catch the sohal cause he's too fast and I have too much live rock and corals that I don't want to disturb. Please help!

Unfortunately all of the above could cause what you are describing. Parasite, bacterial/viral or water contamination/parameters. Narrowing down the possibilities will help determine the most likely candidate. Please answer with as much detail as possible. The more general your answers the less likely we'll figure this out

What was the last wet item added how long ago?
What was the last fish added how long ago?
What are the exact readings from you water quality tests?
What are the exact readings from your chemistry results?
How do you normally maintain the chemistry?
What temp/salinity ect?
When was the last water change, what percentage, how often, what salt is used?

If the problem started soon after adding something wet (fish/coral/rock etc) then something may have been introduced. If there has been some time passed since an addition, the cause will be with the tank/environmental concern.
