Does anyone know any good cheap sump for a 55gal? I would like to have it around $400-500. Then Ill try and save money up for a nice euro reef skimmer

what are the demensions under the tank? you need to figure out what you can fit under the tank and just go get a cheap tank for like walmart or something cheap or get a used tank that someone is selling in you area,
then but some baffles in your self with some glass peices and you silicone for aquariums!
give me the demension under you stand and i will calculate it for you!
the euro-reef is a good choice! i am using that now!
i think you will spend like 70 bucks even with baffles! NOT 400-500 dollars where in the heck did you get that number!
ok now is your tnak already drilled? is it acrylic or glass? if glass is it tempered? if its not drilled you will need an overflow box!
MAKE SURE YOU GO ON REEF CENTRAL and reasearch them! you need to get a high quality one! i am serious if you get the wrong type you will have water all over!
but if you tank is alreadys drill or if its acrylic you can drill it pretty easily!
and i think you can do this whole sump w/ skimmer included for about 400 bucks if not less!!! THERE IS NO WAY IT WILL COST 400 for just the sump! thats rediculus!
anyway any questions just ask! but if your tank is not drilled it sucks! i had my old 70 and it was not drilled! and i had to use an overflow box! it was a PITA!!! always had to mess with it!
anyway if you ever get another tank make sure its drilled! AND JUST GET A REEF READY ONE!

You need to let us know what you want to use the sump for also. We know you want to house the skimmer there. Do you plan to use part of it as a refugium? how much flow do you want through it? Are you going to add a calcium reactor later? Kalk reactor? external return pump or submerged? If external I would suggest am acrylic tank as you can easily drill it yourself.
I agree with Nick though. No way a sump setup (even with the return pump and plumbing) should cost anywhere near $400.
Also, like Nick suggested, sumps can be as simple as a rubbermaid tub and as complicated as the mind can imagine. You have to decide what you want it to be...then we'll be happy to help you out in design, materials, and costs.

I agree, save that money for your lights. Somebody around here will have a 30 gallon or so tank and it will be easy to get some glass cut for baffles, a little silicone and you will be set. $50 max.

Why would my tank be drilled? I checked into that superskimmers.com and I love that sea dragon max skimming sump, so does my dad, and its the perfect price! Ill save up money and we are going to buy it, heres the link: http://superskimmer.com/SD_max sump.htm

They are a good company and are local for me. I have been to there shop a few times and they are nice guys. If they you can get the Mag 7 pump instead of the CA1800 I would do that. The mag is a better pump. I have 2 of the reef devils they make and I got the CA pumps and they are a pain in the butt. Almost everytime I loose power they would not start back up until you hit them or took them apart to clean them. I have replaced one of the CA's already and soon to replace the other.

A pump is getting the water into the sump? And matt, im using tap because all the ro/di units are like 300-400 bucks that Ive seen.

you can get a RO/DI unit for like 100 bucks off ebay i got mine off there aquasafecanada! its a 6 stage unit and takes my tap water from 345 TDS to 0TDS! its a 100gpd unit too! very good i even gave you a link which you shoudl look at! that the guys sells a 5 stage unit!
and you are you usin a pump? to get water from your tank to the sump and then another pump to get water back up to the tank?
use gravity!

I'd get a RO/DI unit as soon as you can. You are putting phosphate and other nutrients that fuel algae growth into your tank via your tap water.
Here are a few choices that are much more reasonable than you are thinking:

I have also seen people get systems off of ebay for good prices. I personally run the Oceanus from Aqutic Reef Systems. Their support has been great for me.
You asked for help and we are trying, but if you keep asking and denying the help people will quit offering advice. You don't have to take the advice, but don't dismiss it in the post. Take it in and use it to make a wise decision. A lot of us have tubs of spare parts from years of buying one thing that didn't work then another...etc. You live and learn. We are trying to save you some money and headaches (and your corals and clam).

WOW... Ill check into those reedman, but Ill have to save up money same with dad, he just bought me one of those sweet kitchenaid heavy duty mixers for xmas, since I love to cook and want to be a chef.
