Hey Guys & Gals,

This week I will be switching from my 180G back to my 100G. Since this will be a fairly easy change out I would like to attack as much GHA, Red Slime and byprosis as possible. I am looking for ideas on how to attack the algae before the rock goes back into the tank.

Open to ideas for removing the algae. Manual removal and Brushing maybe the trick but what kind of other things can I do to help remove and prevent the re-growth of GHA/Red Slime/Byprosis. Maybe some sort of dip or wash... maybe baking the rock in the over?

P.S> Byprosis is my big concern. Its about 90% of the battle!!

Scrub it, but honestly and I know I am going to catch flak for this....one you get running set up an Algae turf scrubber....no more algae problems.

Yeah I plan to set one up on my system as soon as I get home as well as 2 large ones on my commercial system once it is running.

I am ready to start the transfer, just waiting for the weekend I suppose. I am too lazy and worried about starting the switch one day and running out of time before I have to head to work at 9:30pm. This Saturday I will be heading to Barrier Reef so that day is out.... Sunday will be the only day worth attempting the switch considering I don't go back to work till 9:30pm Monday.

scrubbing it or removing it in the tank and cause it to multiple quickly, personally, I use a pressure washer on my live rock and got most of it off. this was 3+ yrs ago and havent seen it since..

Scrubber works like a champ. Just have to be really on the weekly cleaning other wise you lose the efficiency. But works like you would not believe. I watched my scrubber work so hard that the macro's in my refugium started to dwindle away. But the display is algea free. Supposedly once this is up and running it is supposed to minimize the requirement for the 20% water changes as well. Not sure about that one because I continued with mine. All water parameters were spot on and maintained a constant PH through out the day and night. I love that beast of a scrubber.
