Yeah, not to hijack but I would be interested in hearing from people who've kept these successfully. I love these fish but am too scared to try it. I've always been under the impression they're not for the faint of heart.

Also it wouldn't like my hippo tang I'm sure :)

Some pretty impressive setups there.
reefmarker, what's the secret to keeping a yellow & scopas tang together? My yellow bashed my scopas until I moved scopas to my other tank, that's what makes me hesitant about getting a purple, but I'm told it is possible.

I had the scopas first, but he is definately the worst when it comes to agression. I got a yellow about the exact same size and introduced the yellow about 3 years after the scopas. They never fought. The trick may have been that I had a Scopas first, then a Sohal, then the yellow. The scopas was not in charge (the sohal was) so he didn't feel any need to protect anything for the sohal when I added the yellow. Does that make sense.

I have seen a quite a few people with them with no problems. too big for my tank but I haven't heard of them being that extreme. maybe compared to other easy tangs that are hard to kill like my blue tang. but I dont feel they are any harder than my Regal Angel and so on. copperbands are hard fish. my possum wrasse didn't want to eat anything but pods for a little. tons of hard fish out there. they can be kept if you are ready for them.

They can be keep but you need to make sure the tank is parasite free as well as a putting them through a proper QT. I am off to find Hillary:D

And there in a nutshell is the jist of it. Being "ready" is both in the set up the fish will be housed in as well as the hobbyist experience. I would still err on the side of caution when mixing fish species in a given tank size. Some hobbyist may have success with certain mixes and in less than ideal circumstances. That should not encourage you to copy or emulate the same. More often than not it will fail, not succeed. Fish have personalities/temperments and I can guarantee you, no two are the same.

ok tang experts...

Whats the difference between a blue tang from solomon, fiji, or indian ocean?

ref. live aquaria

my favorite!!!!!! i have three,but i don't know the answer.....Steve will know!!!

Odd, they list them seperatly and some even have a small price difference. Must be for their own record keeping or marketing (B.S.) reasons.

The only difference would be behavior. Other than that and it amounts to cost of collection/how they are collected. The yellow bellies are not common to these areas.

E-mail them and ask.

Cheers

I wouldn't use that exact term but "more common to" the northern area of the Caroline islands and in/around Madagascar.
