So I survived the move, got everything into the new house, went back to the old house to move the tank. I had taken everything out the night before to make the actual move part a little easier. I had 12 26 gallon totes that housed all of my rocks, corals, and separate one for the fish. Everything had an airline in it, and I thought I was good. I walked in the next morning and it was like 110 degrees in the house. The wife had went by later that night to make sure everything was closed down, and turned off the AC. Everything in the tank died. A total loss. Not even the hermit crabs survived. Nothing like starting all over. So I have the tank set back up and plumbed into the new house, just no motivation to get things totally set back up. Sad, sad day.

Floyd, OUCH...sorry to hear that....give it a couple weeks to get back in the game. :) I know how you feel as I felt like throwing in the towel in 2010 when 11 of my 18 fish died due to a fish that was added to my main tank. (this incident prompted me to perform some type of QT on all fish that are now added). I let my emotions calm down for ~ a week before I made a decision.

So the tank is back up and semi running. I still need to plumb the chiller and the pellet reactor. Here are some photos.

Some survivors....

And the filter room

So a quick question, I currently have my chiller next to my sump, in a closet. I know its not the ideal place but it has to be there. My question is that the chiller obviously gets hot. What's the best way to cool it down in the closet?

A bath fan installed into the ceiling and vented through the roof will remove heat and humidity from the closet.

Trido, I was thinking the same thing. However the closet is directly under my crawlspace that has my AC unit in it. Would it be alright to put all of that moisture and heat into there, or would additional ducting be required to vent it to the outside.

Wow! and damn Floyd, you were obviously not meant to move to Arizona my friend. Glad you were able to save a few things and get it set back up so quickly though. Please send me your NEW ADDRESS in pm or e-mail and when NOT 100* +++ will see about shipping down some frags to you. I took about 30% of corals out of my tank (filled up a 6' frag tank) and now have the SWC Doser online as well as making a DIY auto feeder bracket with a submerged acrylic tube that makes sure pellets don't float out and into overflow box's. So now almost fully automated for at least 10-14 days of absence at a time. Crabbing and fishing has been very good so far and if you ever need a place to stay for a visit back to the Northwest you know where I live Bro.

Cheers, Todd

You could put the heat into that space and likely will have no problems. It would be better to run it out of the house of course. I've worked in a lot of homes that had their bath fans vented straight into the attic for upwards of 60 years without mold issues.

Not sure if Mold is an issue here in Az, where the crawlspace is almost 130 degrees year round. I was more worried about critters getting in, mostly those damn scorpions. So I will put a vent into the crawlspace. Next question is no matter how much I vent, the chiller is about 3 inches away from the acrylic refugium, which generates alot of heat. Would it be feasible to put some sort of insulation in between or would that just bridge the heat transfer?

Todd, I will send you my new address. My tank has been calling your name since the move. A low almost silent whisper "Tooooooodd, Tooooddd." Automation is always nice to have. To be able to leave for 2 weeks with no worry is great.

Floyd, the micro-sized mylar covered bubble wrap would be a great insulator and at only a 1/4". I could put some/use some in a box of corals for you....

Cheers, Todd

Well the tank is back up and running. All parameters seem to be in place. A few more tweaks to make water changing more efficient, and I should be done. Right now I am back to the 5 gallon walk athon, and it sucks. No room left for a pre mixed area so I have to do this for now. I will post some pictures when I get home.
