what may be the best idea to solve this arguement is for every lighting option, we choose one fighter to represent it in a no-holds fight to the death. I'll start by taking N.O.Flourescents.

That way we will have an answer if someone says "T-5's/MH/etc.. are better." We'll be able to say, "Nu-uh, remember Bob representing power compacts won that fight a few months back?"

now we just need to sign up someone for:
MH
T-5
PC
L.E.D.
Natural Sunlight?

I wouldn't lock the thread, I would just banish people from RF who slander people who are working to advance our hobby to the next level and who dedicate their lives to the education of our nations youth...

PS my masters is in molecular biology, Having heard him in person I can say Fatherree knows his stuff, I don't care if he is an 8th grade drop out, degrees don't equal expertise...

jobiwan I have to agree with you on that a degree definatly does not mean you are an expertise at anything people got to remember your schooling don't end when you graduate from any level of education learning is a life long process.

Right on Roscoe, always remember and never forget that our president had a C average in Yale, and then his daddy bought him a place at the Harvard Business School where he got a masters, I rest my case....

you know I had this very grand, quip all typed out and ready, but I'm going to stop for a second, I really don't want to make enemies when I was merely voicing my opinion.

Jobiwan when you say "that t5's are good for lps" please do yourself a favor and search sps and t5's on other sites, you will be eating your words when you see IWAN'S tank ironically half of your name is his nick. That's one example I can think of many more.

Tim my tone was in response to ignorance and condescension, being told " go diving" when I have been diving half my life really irritates me. It's like having your kid telling you they know, they know, when they have no clue. It takes a lot of patience. I apologize I didn't show any on this thread.

Carlos Antonio there are many ways to skin a cat! Jobiwan and Plack have some good ideas, albeit pricey ones. Solaris is in the 1500 dollar range but a very nice 8 bulb tek5 system is way below that at 1/3 the cost or less. If money isn't an issue do some research on FIBER OPTICS. The array and insulation needed is the most expensive part. There is a very good thread on another site where someone is trying this exact thing, best of luck to you.

everyone else my apologies.

President? We have one of those? I thought it was just a puppet wow thats new to me. With that said bring our troops home!!!!!!!

Hey Ditchie, perhaps you might want to review my posts before you ask me to eat my words, I never said T5's were good for LPS, I said they appeared to be good for softies, perhaps you think LPS and softies are the same thing, that is a common mistake for inexperienced reefers, and I never mentioned anything in regards to SPS and T5's, you may be confusing me with someone else... I know I speak for everyone on RF when I say that we are here to help folks like you succeed, There are a lot of knowledgeable people here, don't be afraid to ask questions, we were all newbies once ourselves...

JabbtheHut! I didn't confuse the two it just happened to be a typo, and it was late. However, softies can be lumped into what you were implying which is T5's aren't suited for keeping SPS. Which is a total misnomer. I was suggesting to look for other links showing long and successful European and American tanks with thriving SPS colonies. This is called sharing information and trying to help educate. Your tone and your condescension know no bounds! "Folks like me?" What exactly are "folks like me?" Do you know anything about me or my experience?? Again, how could anyone discuss anything or want to with someone so arrogant and condescending? This is fruitless and pointless. Carlos I apologize your thread has come to this, if some people would put their ego's away for a moment and speak to people as equals this wouldn't happen so often. But every hobbyist here claims to be a professional. Jobiwan is obviously no exception!

"2000 lots of claims were made that high light demanding critters were thriving under PC setups, people will do that to justify the money they spend on a given setup because that is what they want to believe, that's just human nature, those folks are all strangely silent now. MH's are tried and true, let other hobbyists try the newer lighting options, and you will be guaranteed more than adequate lighting"

The same can applied to those who have thrown tons of money at MH setups and even more money at chillers, fans, a/c units etc... I have had quite a few MH setups, from De to Se with varying results.

I have an sps tank which has an 8 bulb t5 setup and everything is growing and do very well, visual results are much more of an indicator then words. I'd be glad to share my pictures with you. However, I'm no expert at all, and I'm here to learn as well, but I don't speak to people the way you do by far. it's rude and inappropriate!

When you have the chance do some searching and you will find these T5 tanks to be on par with any healthy SPS tank kept with Mh.

best of luck.

I think this thread has run its course...I'm going to close it before it gets too ugly:D
