We have horrible water here, and not only is it really hard water, but it is high in Chloramines, too. I'm curious to what everyone's tap water TDS is. If you can, please also post the area of the country you're in.

I just tested mine.... 535. That is even with a whole house water softener . I'm in the midwest.....Yeah for me :D

Hey Charlie...at least yours is still lower than mine. I think I can chew it :D

Hey Nikki,
Just wondering how often you have to change ro-di cartridges and prefilter carbon? Would it be beneficial to add extra carbon prefilter? Not sure what your purification system consists of. Just a thought.
Scott:)

I have to change out my cartridges about every 3-4 months. I have a sediment filter, carbon, membrane, and DI resins. My TDS out of the RO/DI unit is zero. I have been looking into getting an AquaFX unit with the special Chloramine busters, but I just haven't had the money to do it, yet (especially since my unit seems to work fine).

I had thought about doing a large DI only unit after speaking with Anthony Calfo (less waste water), but after a little research it didn't look like it would do much benefit. A person with a greenhouse in IL bought a 10,000 gallon DI system, but with really high TDS, he was having to recharge his resins after 500 or so gallons. He now has 4, 2 stage RO units before his big DI system. Here is a link to his webpage: Prairie Reef - page 10 construction

Today it is 197. Sometimes as high as 350-400. It depends on what the farmers are doing and how much rain we have got recently. We have a Karst landscape here and the water does not spend hardly anytime underground getting clean. So we have lots of variation in the water quality.

You people with less than 50 TDS make me sick. :D

Karst topography isn't a word most people know. Do you ever go spelunking (caving)?

My tap water runs between 117 and 142. I believe the 10 acre housing project about two blocks away from me is the culprit for my higher readings lately. All in all, good water here though, so I'm not about to complain!!!

Sorta. I have been on lots of guided tours of Mammoth cave. And when younger we used to not tell anybody, sneak off, and go explore all the little caves around where I grew up. Thinking back on it, that was stupid, and it feels scary even now.

I have no idea what mine is. It has to be up there because for a while i was getting horrible algae growing in my tank.

We must be twins. To this day, I cannot believe my friends and I made it out of some caves alive.
