must've been your batch of bulbs. mine have been running for almost 8 months now and no issues. the quality control on the xm's doesn't seem top notch.

Excellent ...

Hey Sue ... have you ever tried the Hamilton 14000k bulbs? I am currently using those and I am really liking the results.

I tried the 14k Hamilton bulbs in the 250w SE version and my corals went brown after a couple months... Hamilton Replaced them without issue but my corals did not like them at all... After reading some stuff on RC it seems as though the 250w SE 14k bulbs like to make corals go brown... Once they swapped mine out for 10k ushio within a matter of 1 week everything was pretty much colored back up the way it used to be... I hear the 400w version of the 14k is different..

FWIW my 400w 10k XM bulbs were very nice white and I have yet to have an issue with them... Been running them for about 3months now... The 250w SE version lasted for some time without issue when I was using them as well... They are not Recommended to be ran on an HQI ballast... I ran one of my 400w 10ks on an HQI for a few days and It turned the bulb a yellow color...

James, my experience was opposite. I was using a 250W 10k XM first, the coral didn't like that bulb that much, little growth, color lost quickly. I tried the Coralvue 14k, it was too blue and the coral reacted negatively to that bulb, and now the Hamilton 14k and the coral took a dramatic turn for the better. All coloring up nicely including bringing out nice purple tips on coral that use to be either all brown or all green.

Just proves that every tank and person's experiences can greatly vary.

Chuck, what brand and type of ballast are you running the hamilton's on? I was looking @ sanjay's site and was noticing the big variance on the par depending on what type of ballast. It would be a big jump for me to cut my light intensity by 2/3

i have 10k Xms on my tank in the 1st 3 days of having them thingss have grew like weeds its amazing and nothing lost its color since having them thats y i asked if anyone has used them first then went to 14k

I too have 250watt 10k XMs and coral colors are great and things are growing that never did like macro algae of a type I have not ID'ed yet. I have a crocea clam that turned brown and now has its full color back after 2 months under XMs. :)

Tom

I use a PFO Dual HQI ballast.

What are thoughts on the 250W XDE 10,000K HQI "Double Ended"??? I need new bulbs for my light because my coralvues broke in the move.... :(

i have 400w SE XM's the color of the bulob is a whiteish color but my corals themselves still have all there color and like i stated before the growth is absoultely amazing

The PAR value was a big issue with my deciding to switch from the iwasaki's last year. Joe Burger sent me that link of his cause I was so undecided whether to change or not. My first couple of XM's gave me colors that I had never seen with my iwasaki's. Grwoth was as good if not better. I was so happy.

Today my new replacement has turned yellow as the other one did. It's on the same side that the other "first" bulb went out on. I am at such a loss I don't know what in the world is wrong. I never had this kind of problem with the first XM's. Never....
