    building a bubble trap quickly

Yeah, I inadvertently broke 2 and the other bent, so gotta replace all 3 (besides, the height needed adjusted down). Guess I'll be careful :)

So, WABlonde, you planning to set up a sump?

    building a bubble trap quickly

Well, so far...it hasn't...lol. I cut 3 sheets the correct size and I plan to use the air tubing to place them. I just haven't had a chance to rearrange the return pump/protein skimmer/UV sterilizer long enough to do it. Unfortunately, my dogs destroyed our fence, so I've been rebuilding it...

To many bubbles in the skimmer?

I'd try routing a piece of pvc as an extension below the water line to get rid of the splashing. Not sure which water/bubble line you're referring to though.

To many bubbles in the skimmer?

any update? I'm curious how this worked out for you. I recently (after overflowing mine with the tank pumps off for some maintenance) had a similar issue, but after a few hours it settled back down.

This is the system I was referring to. Sundial T5 High Output Lighting System It's available in a 36" as well. Built in timers and built in LED moon-lights as well. Works very well for me. Hope this helps.

To many bubbles in the skimmer?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the gate valve allows water OUT right? So, if the gate is closed, your water level inside is higher correct? This would cause your issue, open the gate all the way and let the inner water level drop. (I could be wrong, but it won't hurt right? LOL)

I use the 48" version of this (but the one with built in timers and stuff) for mine...and they love it. Current USA Nova Extreme T5HO Fixtures Don't know how much you were wanting to spend, but should be plenty of light.

    Reef Octopus xp 1000 sss

so...update. A couple of days breaking in so far and all looks good. I'm skimming wet right now, trying to keep letting it flow for the time being. However, the cup is HUGE and even wet I can probably go about 5 days without touching it. It started pulling gunk out within an hour of turning it...

    sump help / question

Sounds like you had fun...lol. The only potential issue I see is having all of your flow going through the fuge. Typically, the fuge is low-flow rather than having your entire systems flow. It might work though....just not sure.

    Reef Octopus xp 1000 sss

I had the old one on a stand (well, upside-down tupperware container...lol). But with the new, improved (ie larger) skimmer....that much height would have been an issue. However, I wish i'd just done the stand for last night so i didn't have to lose the extra sleep...lol I should know better...

    building a bubble trap quickly

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll have to try the airline tubing and see if i can get that to work without draining...that would be GREAT (and probably make my wife happier as well....lol). If not, I used silicone initially and it worked great...just trying to avoid the downtime. Wonder if the...

    building a bubble trap quickly

I don't trust leaving it with no circulation overnight...seems too long...lol I don't have any way to cut glass...lol It's really just bubble trap/baffles, no need for these to hold water pressure at all. With the airline tubing, do you just split it, put it on the sides, and wedge it in...

    building a bubble trap quickly

So, I built my DIY sump from 29 gallon aquarium. Worked great, until I wanted to lower the water level and destroyed my bubble trap (late night, trying to hurry...no excuses...lol) Anyway, I have to nearly empty my 100 gallon tank and take out the center brace from my stand in order to remove...
