    lots of little Anemone

Yeah they are aptasia, I have had to deal with plenty. Joe's Juice is the best. I have heard that you can make your own with a real thick slurry of kalkwasser. You use a syringe and shoot it onto the "mouth" in the middle. It just withers up and dies. -chris

    ricordia browning why?

I had the same ricordia and my lights shocked it when first introduced. It turned super white like the first picture. Then it turned brownish and now has redish/blue coloration on it, but still with the brown base color. I bet some more color will come back in a month or two.

    Lighting help please

I wouldn't recommend going with a single MH. I tried that on my 58 gallon with a 400 watt metal halide. I didn't like the way it looked due to shadows and dark/light spots and ended up having to add another one. Now with 800 watts of 14k MH my tank. Later research suggested lamp placement...

    Anyone ever seen/done this before?

I would use a slab of acrylic with legs at the corner and possibly middle. Same affect, but no stress on the tank wall and no additional back acrylic piece (it would make cleaning difficult

    Cammra chat,

I have the Canon Cyber Shot DSC. I found you want to use the macro setting, no flash, and then adjust the focus setting so that it is just the very center of the picture. I forget exactly how, but it is easy just push the settings menu and stumble through. I am really happy with the camera...

    Calcium too high?

I added the reef builder per the directions on the bottle and my calcium levels went up to 600 too. I had to back down and use that stuff very sparingly. I always measured good alkalinity and pH though? I couldn't figure it out and now just add occasionally in moderation based on analysis. I...

    Do's and Donts PLease help

My Experience I just added a 20 - 30 gallon sump to my 60 gallon tank. What I did was Glued in a baffle so the overflow goes into half the tank up to a few inches from the top. I filled the refugium up with new sand from the fish store (1 bag about 20 pounds I think) and then about two...

    Refugium Basics

Thanks for the input Thanks everyone for the input. I already have pods crawling all over the cheato and glass, some are definitely amphipods but there are two other types that I can't figure out (I am calling them copepods for now....). I want to add rubble, but am cheap. What are some good...

    Refugium Basics

Hey, I just set up a "refugium", which right now consists of a deep sand bed and a big ball of cheato. What other critters and plants are good for a refugium? I am getting that red algae on the sand and plenty of pods right now. I am thinking those mexican turbo snails for the red algae...

    Mixing Anemones with LPS

I have a bubble tip that moved all over the tank for two months. He would even go into this airborne ball floating through the whole tank. Someone told me once he is somewhere good start spot feeding him every day mysis shrimp and he will stay put. It has been a couple months and hasn't moved...

    Flower Anemone

Hello, I have some questions about Flower Anemone. Is it possible that this anemone would eat a clownfish? How about a serpent star? I am missing a fish that was well established healthy, eating regularly, and so forth. -chris

    Green Algae... I think?

Here are some pictures Okay after seeing some of your tanks I think you may be right that this is coraline. I posted three pictures of the green rocks and I am hoping they will turn purple, blue, and so forth. There is one spot near the porite that has hair algae, which I consider the pasture...

    Green Algae... I think?

Thanks for all the feedback. I think you might be right about it eventually turning pink and being coraline. It doesn't scrape off and the snails don't eat it. I will take some pictures tonight and post them tomorrow. There are spots of pink on the rocks and it is turning purple/blue where...

Stainless Steel, how bad is it?

Steel becomes brittle when exposed to chlorine and chlorides. I believe this is due to the chlorine radicalizing and extracting the Nickel from the metal. So I would be concerned about nickel posioning the fish/corals. Nickel, especially as Nickel Chloride, is extremely aggravating to living...

    Green Algae... I think?

So my tank is about 2-3 months old, 58 gallon oceanic show. Nitrates, ammonia, phosphorous are all negligable. I have a good coral load and a big cleaning crew 30+ snails and crabs. The corals are all very happy, however I am not getting coraline growth. Rather all the rocks are coated in a...
