    reflectors

I was told by someone on here about this place: http://anomet.com/cgi-bin/online/storepro.php Which looks pretty good. -Chris

    RODI and low water pressure.

Bernoulli established that water pressure and flow are directly proportional. All I am trying to state is if the incoming pressure is 60 pounds and your initial filter has a 30 pound drop then you could increase output by purchasing a filter with a 10 pound drop across it. Different brands of...

    RODI and low water pressure.

I want to clarify that the best recommendation is to either move the RO-DI unit to a faucet with higher pressure or purchase a booster pump. I would check the first sediment filters and change more often. If you don't want to risk the membrane with the carbon filter you can switch to a pleated...

    RODI and low water pressure.

Okay this may be a dumb question followed by a suggestion based on my experience. Don't the RO/DI machines have a regulator that provides the proper back pressure, right? So, shouldn't back pressure be fairly constant? I know that isn't the case because I have low pressure too and my RO/DI...

    AquaEuro USA AE Skimmers

Thanks for the info. I found this website selling them http://www.oceansaquariums.com/index.php?cPath=30&osCsid=r6glujda6irjgto5hltbuk53k5 the 400 is 245, but I was more interested in the 265 recirculating which is selling for $256. This is a screaming deal for a dual pump recirculating...

    AquaEuro USA AE Skimmers

Hello, Is there any update on these skimmers? Are they still running well and would you recommend them? How about the recirculating models? -chris

    time for a new skimmer

I have been researching a new skimmer for awhile. My budget is around 300 bucks. I have a 58 gallon reef with about 20 gallons in the sump. I have narrowed it down to the Tunze 9010 or Euroreef RS135. What would you recommend. Important features to me are future upgrade to a low bioload...

    MH lighting/hairline question

I would recommend lighting your sump and using some cheato to "use up" any excess nutrients. You can use a simple grow light from the hardware store and plenty of people on the site will provide cheato. It also makes a great haven for pods. -chris

    anti foaming

You can make an acrylic tray that floats on top of the tank, reduced roughly 6" per side. It will allow for light penetration. Unfortunately the sides will likely act like a protein skimmer so an internal ring could be built a few inches in from each side. The center would stay clear and...

    anti foaming

I think the problem with most antifoams is they are largely alcohol/glycol based which would cause issues with the shrimp. There are two basic types of antifoam, if I remember right, one that is alcohol based to lower surface tension and the other is sort of an oil base that floats on top (I...

    anti foaming

This may sound completely weird, but when working on chemicals at work that foam and we can't add a chemical anti foam we have used ping pong balls. They break the surface tension and help keep foaming to a minimum, not near as effective as a chemical additive but they do work. We would put a...

    switching to halide

I have a DIY I made at work using polished steel. It is the same footprint as my tank (18x36). The problem I ran into is most off the shelf reflectors are designed for a 24" by 24" footprint of light. this leaves 6" on either side that is shady. Which is okay because you can put your low...

    switching to halide

I have the exact same tank and went with one 400 watt halide, but didn't like the look of one point source of light. I would go with two 250 watt halides. I currently run 2 400 watt MH with only 4 hours of overlap, but I don't use a chiller and haven't had a problem. I run two large volume...

    getting green gone

Make sure you are using good quality RO/DI water and the filters are not too old. How much, what, and how are you feeding? You can place Cheatomorph in the sump as competition. The key is limiting what you are adding and improving your waste removal (cheato, skimmer, water changes, etc.)...

    Recirculating versus Standard

My skimmer broke about a month ago and was limping for the couple months before that. I am looking at getting a new skimmer that works well, but is not totally extravagant (i.e. less than $400). Just based on general principle is it better to get a standard skimmer rated at 400 gallons or a...

    Finnex t5 Lights

Thanks for the information. I don't know on the ballast. That is a great link on the t5 light retro package. Do you know if the lights they offer for the additional $10 are any good? I would probably get those and then possibly upgrade to giessman or comparable down the line. It looks like...

    Finnex t5 Lights

Does anybody have any experience with these? I know the sunlight supply tek lights seem to be the way to go with the individual parabolic reflectors, but for half the price these seem like a good deal. I was thinking of them as supplemental to existing light. I just don't have much experience...

    Copperband Butterfly

I got one to eat glass anemone's as well. It was okay for about 3 months great fish and then starved to death with 20 or so aptasia still in the tank. I then did some reading and searching to discover this is somewhat normal. That some of them are finicky enough to stop eating and starve to...

    Is it dying?????

Not necessarily. Mine does this every now and then, sort of like shedding. Make sure there is good flow around it to pull away any waste products. Hopefully it should reduce with time, but if it gets worse you may have a problem.
