kalkwasser left on tank crash :-(

Paul, I am so sorry for your loss. I do not think that any of us are natural born reefers. Reefkeeping must be one the most challenging "hobbies" there is. Do you need any salt to mix new saltwater? Gary

    The war with the flatworms

Yeah, I have red planaria in one of my tanks. They hang out mostly on the macroalgae in the tank. You could try siphoning some of them out by using some flexible airline if you have some large patches of them. g

Recommendation on cheap pump for top off?

7" wide X 8" high X 4" deep. There is a clamp on the back for mounting the unit on a pole. It adds another 2.5" to the depth. My pump just sits on my stand next to my tank. g

    Mirage's 40 Gallon Stretch Hex

If you want to have the option of cleaning the slotted PVC overflow, you could try this. On one of the ends, instead of using a 90 degree elbow, you could use a tee with an internally threaded end. Install a plug into that end. If you need to clean out the inside of the long PVC pipe, remove...

Recommendation on cheap pump for top off?

On two of my three tanks, I am using peristaltic/enteral dosing pumps. I also use BRS two part calcium and alkilinity additions, so these pumps work great. Here is one of the pumps that I am using...

    Help with bangaii cardinals

Good luck with sexing your Banggais. The only way to get a positive sexing of your fish is to wait until they mature and start the mating dance. Until then, there are some rough guidelines, but they are not reliable. I raised Banggai babies back in 2001 with great success. I had bought two...

    Tank tragedy averted (probably)

I am glad that you caught the problem relatively quickly. Reefkeeping is hard enough when everything is working like it is supposed to work. I visually check on my tanks quite often. If I wake up in teh middle of the night for a snack or a restroom visit, I make the rounds and check on all...

    must be a curse.......

Sometimes its the misfortunes in life that force us to make a change for the better. That is a bummer about having two tanks crack on you. Hopefully you get that 120 gallon soon before something catastrophic happens. You are gonna love having a 120. Give yourself plenty of time to move...

    75g Build... Finally!

You meant 1.025 sg and 8.0 dKH, right? And I would gradually bump up the salinity to 1.026. How are you measuring your salinity/sg? An inexpensive way to cool your tank down a couple degrees is to place a clip-on fan so that it is blowing over your sump. That will increase your evaporation...

    Devastating Tank Tragedy

I am glad that the situation has improved dramatically. It sounds like your quick and decisive response averted a potentially much larger loss of life. Gary

    Devastating Tank Tragedy

Michael, I am so sorry for your loss. To have something like this happen just awful. This may seem silly to some, but I'll pray for your tanks and for your family. Gary
