Anyone use a UPS for power outages?

In August, I ordered one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E6LEI2 I have it set up on one of my tanks. I also recently purchased a small Honda generator to take care of power outages. Here is a thread that talks about it...

I agree with Trido - that's alot of coral for a newer tank. How many different corals do you have in your tank now? g

    brands of retuurn pumps

What is the diameter of your return line? Perhaps you could use a Mag 12 and increase the diameter of your return line to minimize the head drop of your pump. Or you could use an Eheim 1262.

    Tank Location

J-Mac and I have currently have three tanks up and running: 30-gallon custom AIO SPS tank in the "western parlor". This room has our main house entrance and did not get used much until I set up our first tank in this room. 30-gallon Oceanic cube tank in the Family Room. We are hoping that...

    36th wedding anniversary today

Paul, I just found this thread I wish you and your sweetheart a Happy Anniversary. I am always encouraged and impressed by those whose stick it out together and stay married for the rest of theri lives. My Mom and Dad will be coming up on fifty years in a couple of years. Julia and I got...

My new generator arrived this morning

There is a substantial price increase between the EU2000iA and the EU3000 series of generators. I like that in the future I can add a second EU2000iA (or EU2000 iA Companion) to increase available power as you just mentioned. I considered all the posts I have read over the years about people...

Next Coral Farmers Market in Portland?

I would also be up for a roadtrip to Portland. Count me and J-Mac in for the next one. I think that Amtrak is pretty cheap from Seattle to Portland, too.

My new generator arrived this morning

I am not sure, but I think that setting up a natural gas powered generator would require an inspection to satisfy the county or the state. It would be nice to have a NG (or dual fuel) generator hooked up to a sub-panel that was capable of powering the house for long periods of time.

    Used Equipment For Sale

That's a nice looking set-up for a great price. My wife, Julia, even thinks the stand and canopy are pretty. Somebody must have a wall that needs an eight foot tank. I was just walking around our house with a tape measure looking for a spot. :) But then I already have a 75-gallon tank to...

Ideas of how to save money with energy efficient SPS systems..

I remember years ago when our house was set up to be billed at different rates for using power during off-peak hours. Our house is currently not set-up for that type of billing. Is yours?

My new generator arrived this morning

I got back into reefing a year ago, and now I have three small tanks running with plans to set up a 75-gallon tank soon. With winter approaching, I was not comfortable with not having a back-up power supply. Every winter, I can count on at least one wind storm knocking out my power. I have a...

Ideas of how to save money with energy efficient SPS systems..

Marine Depot carries the Dual Voltage 250W Lumatek ballast. They no longer have the Single Voltage 120V 250W ballast. MArine Depot also carries the Dual Voltage 400W Lumatek ballast...

Ideas of how to save money with energy efficient SPS systems..

With respect to lighting, energy usage is only one of the factors to be considered. For many reefers, it is secondary to other lighting-related factors including light intensity, light spectrum, growth rate of corals, coloring of corals, appearance of the tank, heat generated by the lighting...

    Gate Valves

That's a pretty good price for a 1" threaded Schedule 80 gate valve. Here is another source for valves and other plumbing parts I have used in the past: http://www.savko.com/partlist.asp?pgid=1 g

    Which overflow would u reccomend?

You can get a 500-700gph pump and place a gate valve between the return pump and the tank. Using the gate valve, you can vary the flow of water returning to the tank from the sump. Adjust the gate valve until you get a flow rate that does not put allot of microbubbles into your tank. Gate...

    Which overflow would u reccomend?

I agree that the U-tube overflow boxes are more reliable. The top of the line U-tube overflow boxes are the ones made made by Jeff at Lifereef. I have used one of them in the past and it never failed me. I am not familiar with the other manufacturers of U-tube overflow boxes.
