Reef Crystals alk, mg and CA levels

At 1.025 SG and about 76 degrees after approx 18 hours of mixing my reef crystal mix had the following: Alk = 11.5dkh CA = 375ppm MG = 1175ppm Nothing really scares me too much except the MG reading. Being that low, it would need to be supplemented.

Reef Crystals alk, mg and CA levels

that'd be great actually. i'll probably still test for mg, alk and ca just so I know for sure. I've got a water change mixing right now so I can post those numbers in the morning when I do that.

Reef Crystals alk, mg and CA levels

I'm having difficulty finding any kind of information on how Reef Crystals tests when mixed up. I want to get an idea of what I'll have to buffer for in the future when I do water changes. I know there's had to have been a test or thread discussing this. Can someone point me in the right...

some pictures of my 200 gallon

Nice room dude. I'm starting to put together plans for my fish room this summer...and it's going to look pretty similar to yours. One quick question...where did you get the acrylic sump? If you made it...how difficult was it do do?

    Magnesium supplementing

You said 120 fluid ounces. How does that equal out to ounces of actual epson salt? Is liquid ounces the same as actual ounces of espon salt? Just wondering how much epson salt it would take to raise your mg.

    Proper Lighter for Zoas

i had 10k Coralvue bulbs up until a month ago...then I switched to Hamilton 14k. Maybe it's something else but it just seems to be the lighting.

    Proper Lighter for Zoas

mine grow. THey've just shrunk down to a smaller size since the new lighting. Have you ever used a less intense lighting system on your zoas?

    Proper Lighter for Zoas

This topic has kind of already been beaten to death, so I'll try to keep it simple. 75g aquarium...I used to have a 265w PC fixture over it. Zoas did great and polyps extended far and full. I switched to dual 250w MH's with two 65w PC actinics...performed a 5 week acclimation procedure with...

    Planet Earth

Planet Earth is amazing. It's unreal in HD. Probably going to buy it on DVD when the entire series is available. It's just that good. Easily the best nature type show ever. However, I am/was a big fan of Sunrise Earth when I had an HD cablebox. It was great to read the paper and drink...

How to approach higher CA than alk demand

Don's right. I'm using the big Gen-X media (CRM?). I've heard good things about it so I went with it instead of arm. The big issue for me is understanding why my calcium continues to drop almost 15-20ppm every day, while my alk increases by 0.5 - 1 dKh per day. Since I'm new at this, i'm...

How to approach higher CA than alk demand

what do you recommend for a mag additive then? MagFlake?

How to approach higher CA than alk demand

I can bring it up with some epson salts. Then alk and ca will be easier to balance? Another question, does the CAX add magnesium?

How to approach higher CA than alk demand

Mg = 1080~1100 Could the mg be too low and causing problems getting my CA up? Also, I believe you said effluent ph doesn't matter, but i'm starting to suspicion that at a higher ph, the cax media dissolves more alk than CA? Is that possible? It just seems to add waaay to much alk and hardly...

How to approach higher CA than alk demand

Turns out my system uses calcium more than alk. I have a fairly low CA & alk demand overall. The calcium reactor keeps alk stable, but my CA continues to drop. My question is, what's the best way to approach adding CA to keep up with demand. I've tried using kalk lately, but that raises...

    Options for flow

So I'll probably go with a closed loop. Everyones in agreement with that. So thinking further down this road....with a 180/200g tank, i'd probably want at least 3 or 4 holes for a closed loop. If I add an oceans motions to the mix, and put a good sized pump on the loop, should that be...

suggestions for how to run carbon

I was just reading up more on carbon, and it seems some folks have had more success with a phosphate remover. Supposedly sps can tolerate some nitrate levels, but not phosphates since algae really needs phosphates to grow. I'm wondering if it's more important to run a phosphate remover instead...

    55 gallon canopy

These are two that I built. I like the doors on the front. I made the frame out of 2x2's, then clad the outside with some sort of finishing wood. I left the back open on both. The first one was modifed later on so that the reflectors were turned 90 degrees, and the CF lights were hung futher...

suggestions for how to run carbon

did you reuse the bag and just change the media? Or did you change both?
