    Elos test kits

I have been using Elos kits for a while now. In my opinion, they are of a much higher quality than Salifert. I have absolutely no way of telling you which one is more accurate, but have been able to produce repeatable results with both kits. Salifert tends to have a bit higher resolution; in...

    Rowaphos dosage

I have followed the advice of the guy that used to be the distributer for Rowa in the USA. Here is one of many threads where he gives advice on how much to use. http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=131163#post131163 I pretty much do the same thing; fill a reactor 1/2 way...

    Live rock decisions...oh boy.

If I had to buy live rock again, I would purchased it from local reefers that are getting out of the hobby. Pretty much guaranteed to be cured, and probably cheaper than base rock.

New? Bio Sea Marine salt .

Boomer, I made a post on RAG that stated the Boomer on RAG is probably not the Boomer on RC or RF. I then edited my post to remove any ambiguity ("probably" was removed.) This is the best I can do; I am not a site moderator and I do not possess the computer skills to change anything on the...

New? Bio Sea Marine salt .

Boomer, Wasn't it you that recently invited me to come check out this site again? If you notice, I posted about Giessemann MH bulbs before hand; I just posted there again. You have made it very clear that I am not welcome over here. I'm OK with that. I don't come on the internet to argue...

Anybody use the Giesemann 14.5 coral DE 250W bulbs?

I was using T5's before. The T5's were a lot brighter, that's for sure!! I have been running these bulbs now since May.

New? Bio Sea Marine salt .

I have used this salt previously and was invited to use it for the past few months, provided that I post results. The manufacturer provided the salt, Elos test kits, and a few additives in case I needed them (Ca, alk, and pH additives.) I used Bio Sea for the past 4 months. In this time, I...

Anybody use the Giesemann 14.5 coral DE 250W bulbs?

I am using the 14.5K G-mann bulbs. They have burned in to a nice white color with a hint of blue. This is running them on ICE ballasts.

Should I set up a quarantine tank?

I recommend it! I use a 20g long tank (extra swimming room), a HOB filter (like ones common in fresh water), 2 PVC T-fittings, a heater, thermostat, and a refractometer for measuring specific gravity (if you choose to use hyposalinity.) Edit: I also keep a bag of bio-filter media in my sump...

    Sock or not to sock........

I have found that if I use them constantly and change them every 2 days, I get a nitrate spike. I use one for a few hours when I blow off the rock prior to a water change, and then remove it. I seem to have the same amount of small particles in the water whether the sock is used or not; I've...

    Phosban reactor 150 question

I have been using Rowaphos for quite some time now (about a year.) Though I have never had any issues with it's performance, the price is a bit on the high side and it is shipped wet. In other words, you are not getting a lot of usable product for it's weight and it costs twice as much as most...

    Phosban reactor 150 question

I have just switched from using Rowaphos to the Warner Marine media. Since it's only been a few days since the switch, I can't really speak of the phosphate removal capabilities. I can certainly say that it fluidizes much better than any other phosphate removing media I have used to date.

    T5 HO bulb configuration

I have two fixtures and am currently running 3 Actinic+ and 3 Aquablue+ bulbs in each fixture. I am waiting on two Midday bulbs to arrive at my door by Saturday. It's a nice crisp white, but I think one less Aquablue+ bulb will tone the white down a bit.

    Watch your flow!!

You may be onto something there. It's not like it was directly in front of the Tunze; there are other acro's that are much closer and could care less. I may move it to an area of lower flow and see what happens. The good news is that it didn't fully bleach out. I lost about the top 40% and...

    Watch your flow!!

To be perfectly honest, I don't know the names of any corals in my tank.

    Watch your flow!!

The batteries in my camera just died as I attempted to take a few more pics. I'll try to get some this weekend.

    Watch your flow!!

I have two Tunze 6100's on magnet mounts and tend to move them around a lot to keep things stirred up. Well, I accidentally placed the pump in such a way that it put direct flow onto one of my SPS corals. Needless to say, I can't kick myself hard enough for being complacent. I now have the...

    Test Kits

Wanna hear something strange??? The more test kits I buy, the less I test!! I'm one kit away from not checking the water at all, but saving that for a special occasion.

    Setting up an SPS tank...Kalk?

I always had good results when I used limewater that wasn't saturated. I eventually had to up the amount of lime as the tank grew, but nothing to indicate that anything less than fully saturated was bad or useless. I just keep the lid on the Brute container. Again, there were no ill effects...

    Setting up an SPS tank...Kalk?

From what I understand, saturation occurs at about 2 teaspoons per gallon. I have never had a need to go above 1 teaspoon per gallon, and this still left a whole bunch of stuff at the bottom of my container (even though it was mixed up to 24 hours prior to use.) I guess the best way to find...
