Filter Floss, do you dispose and replace of clean and reuse?

I had a similar setup with my last DT, and replaced the filter floss with a sponge pad. I bought 3 of them so I could easily clean the ones not in use at my convenience. Still have to clean them out on a very regular basis but they last for ever. It's kind of hard to clean filter floss...

The hot spell is over and um?

I remember a DIY chiller build out of a mini fridge before. With a Ti heat exchanger and something like antifreeze to speed the exchange, it worked but just barely. The cost of the electricity to run the fridge outweighed an actual chiller considerably if I remember right, but the biggest issue...

ID for Weird Purple Algae please

Can't help with an ID, but I will say it's one of the best looking algae's I have seen :) From the description, I would assume it's some sort of macro, if you were closer I would ask for a piece for my overflow turf scrubber. lol

Problem hooking up ro/di in new apartment..

take a good look at it and go back to home depot and there are only 2 standard sizes that I know of and they are very noticeably different. Then look at what it is and order the size you need. lol Or: you can also take the whole line with you and ask someone there what size it is. they would be...

Problem hooking up ro/di in new apartment..

Found what I was looking for on bulk reef supply finaly. lol John Guest Angle Stop Valve That will connect to where the braided lines you have connect. you would just shutoff the water to the line, remove the braided hose. attach this where it was and attach the braided hose to it and you...

Problem hooking up ro/di in new apartment..

The brass valve that I have an arrow pointing to in my pic has a standard fitting in the T. You can easily get a fitting to attach a shutoff valve to turn the rodi unit off and get a fitting that will let you plumb your rodi into it permanently, or you can add a connector so you can just plug it...

Problem hooking up ro/di in new apartment..

Sorry, Hopefully this one works. ;) Or are you talking about the tubing coming from the rodi unit? If you need the end for it to attach to your faucet, I think you'll have to look online or at a LFS in your area. most would have it or be able to order exactly what you need fitting wise.

Problem hooking up ro/di in new apartment..

I got the best picture I could in the space. lol Ask the guys in the appliance area ;) and might have to go to the plumbing section to find the adapter you need to attatch it to your setup. I hope this is what your looking for. all other fittings would be found in the plumbing section. If this...

Problem hooking up ro/di in new apartment..

look at home depot or lows ect. They have a splitter meant for adding a dishwasher in a kit for cheap. Get that, and the standard plumbing adapter for it to match your Input line. I think you might even find a quick connect fitting for it online. Good luck and hope this helps. Casey

MH bulb choices and the pro's and cons?

ok, I seem to be running into a huge problem with bulb choice. Maybe I'm doing the searches wrong but I seem to be only finding coralvue and hamilton 400w DE/HQI bulbs. Anyone have an idea of who else makes 400w DE bulbs and how to find them? or know weather the hamilton magnetic MH ballasts...

MH bulb choices and the pro's and cons?

Awesome link. Only wish the camera shots were more even, but looking at that, I like the red and blue crispness from the coralvue 15000k. Any idea why the Blueline being at only 10000k is bluer than all the rest? seems a bit backwards. :/ This is one of the things I was really looking to hear...

MH bulb choices and the pro's and cons?

I recently picked up a 3x 400wDE MH Hamilton fixture used and have no clue as to the age / type / Kelvin rating of the bulbs. They seem to be slightly blue when warming up but mostly white when full on. I plan on purchasing new bulbs and then I found my problem. I have always used PC/VHO...

    thickness of acrylic for...

I'm starting to wonder. I would think 3/8" - 1/2" but I have looked at 4 calculators for thickness safety and all are suggesting a "very safe" thickness to be 1/4 including one that shows in mm that calculated out to 4mm (1/5"). I would still go at least 3/8 if I were the one building it...

There are allot of ER skimmers. knowing witch one you have would help ;) if your not sure and can't see any model #'s anywhere, try taking the collection cup off and look at the sealing area between the main body and collection cup. mine was hand etched in that area. Once we know tha size of...

About ready to throw the flag in. This is making me insane.

Still waiting on return water volume :) but another thought just crossed my mind. I know in my setup. if my silencer gets some salt creep, I get surging in my overflow. that's why I asked. but then I thought. If your silencer gets blocked in your setup, the other overflow rushing down at that Y...
