    Jiddy Needs Help, goto Chat!

Nikki, I'm a little confused. I have been told that ich cannot infect my snails, crabs, urchin, or shrimp so it would be OK to leave them in the tank while taking my fish out to a qt and start doing the hypo salinity treatment. Yet in reading part 1 of that series it specifically says that...

Yeah, I meant with hypo salinity. I am still busy reading though and yes, your articles are on the list. Right now I am trying to wade through three different threads and it is slow going. Anne

So if (and I do mean if at this point) I remove the fish and put them in qt and then just keep the main tank up to keep the inverts happy--once I see that the fish have gone without spots for 4 weeks and then return the fish to tank--it would be OK? Anne

Great--so if I decide to put the fish in the qt tank--then the shrimps also have to go in. Correct????

Will ich infect crabs and snails?

Can you tell what caused the problem? Excess iodine, poor water movement on top? I recently had two of my clowns die and the skunk clown was breathing hard for quite a few days before it happened. Then I left for two nights over thanksgiving---and came back to two dead fish in my tank. I am...

Test kits for Iodine and Iron?

We currently use Instant Ocean--and from what I hear some of the larger aquarium type attractions use it as well. Yeah, I fight some calcium issues as well as mag and stront---but I have figured that these are going to be constant problems and I just dose accordingly. Anne

    do polyps ...

Just a dumb question---but are you feeding those? What and how often are you feeding them? I have some tube coral that is somewhat similar to those and based on what I know at this point I have been feeding them daily. Problem--red slime is coming back. These were hitchikers and I did not...

    10 mins, a flashlight, a net and a bucket!

Krish---I will tempt you all I can--knowing that you would get the joy of seeing two boys discover beach and ocean for the first time in their lives. The song "I Can Only Imagine" comes to mind on this one. No pressure though. Anne

Krish--you are turning me a little green with envy!!! Your doing what I wish my two boys could spend about two weeks doing. Unfortunately the plane ticket is the problem. Anne

    Helppppp!!!

Until you can track down the culprit--if you still have anything in the tank--it might be a good idea to use a good garlic supplement to help boost organisms resistance to disease or help them cure themselves. Anne

    Maybe Eggs??????

Thank you all for your thoughts. I have approached the losses as to be expected--especially when beginning. Blue damsel is still alive and kicking. We have moved him to a smaller tank temporarily so that he does not get territorial about the bigger tank. It also gave us a better chance to...

    Bad Ph!!

No, the kalk won't hurt anything--but it will bring your calcium levels up. Be sure you get either a drip doser or you make one up yourself (I'm sure somebody here could help with that). Drip it in at a rate of about 1 drop every 2-3 seconds. When mixing the kalk-be sure to let it set for...

    Maybe Eggs??????

One heck of a weekend. We walked in after being gone for two nights and found 2 of our 3 fish dead. Don't know what happened or why or how it happened. Water quality was just fine--although I think I know what it may have been. May need to get a powerhead with more umph behind it. Anyway as...

    Low KH

What was your water temp. It seems like you are doing a good job--my suggestion is that you keep it up and log---log---log. I would do thorough water testing every other day and write down pH, temp, SG, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, dKH, Cal, and Mag. When you get a couple of week's worth of...

    Jiddy is Hot, soooo Hot!

Jiddy, I have another thought for you as well. Half fill several small water bottles with ro water and then freeze them. Run them in and out of the freezer and put them in your sump--so that the cooler water can circulate right into your tank. HTH Anne

    noob question..

__________________________________________________________ You mean I actually got something right!!!!!! :D Good to know that--especially after coming home from being gone two nights and finding two dead fishies in my tank :( No idea why--but the lfs owner we talked to and...

    noob question..

What kind of salt are you using? Acro is an sps coral which means that it is a very tough coral to grow. It is very picky and it requires more mineral monitoring than just calcium. I can guarantee you that if your salt is short on calcium---dosing the kent liquid according to directions on...
