    Tank Idea

I was kind of coming to the same conclusion as i was reading this lol. As far as using this design on a large reef system i would think that the lack of space, water volume, accessability, room for a fuge, various reactors etc. would kinda make this impractical.

    UV sterilizer

I am currently researching UV sterilizers and thought i'd ask your collective opinion. If you currently use one I'd like to know how it works for you and if you've noticed any differences since using it. If you've had experience with one and don't use one any more why not? Also what size would...

    Refugium ...sumps ..oh my..confused

since we're on the subject of carbon, how would this advice apply to use of a phosban reactor/media? amount used frequency of change etc. (72g bow, skimmer, sump, 75lbs live rock, live sand)

    micro bubbles ?? check valve?

I second that. I got my microbubbles under control by using a filter sock on the overflow and a layer of filter media foam between on of the bubble traps. If you do this make sure to clean/replace the filter media every once in a while.

    How long for ammonia spike?

the hob sponge filter is on my qt tank. in this tank there is no substrate or live rock as i dont want to nuke it if i have to medicate. i was under the impression that somewhat elevated nitrate levels aren't too bad for fish but rather bad for corals. In my main system I have a 15 gal sump...

    How long for ammonia spike?

I was just wondering what the critical time frame is from when you introduce 1 or more new fish into a given tank until they would cause ammonia issues if the bacteria population turned out to be insufficient. So far except for the very beginning when i had a small spike i have never had any...

    mh lighting problem

I have a similar setup and with mine if I turn of the MHs I can't turn them on again for about 30mins. Doesn't really bother me since they run on a timer anyway.

Will someone help me with a fish.

I would love to have a flame angel but I'm not sure if they're reef safe. Do you have corals/clams in your tank and if so does he pick at them?

    RODI Question

k I'm confused. I've spent time at both Home Depot and Lowes and the best thing I've come up with so far is a sprinkler timer that will let me control the amount of time my rodi unit has a supply of water. The ideal setup would be a mechanical float switch that would shut off the water supply...

new lighting wow what a difference...

I did just that. I usually work from about 9-6 so I have actinics only 11-12, then mh+actinics from 12 to 10, then actinics only from 10-11. This brings up a question i have been meaning to ask. I have tried feeding my fish in the morning before i go to work and they don't want any part of it...

    Help with Adding Life!

welcome to reeffrontiers you will find a bunch of cool people here. I am fairly new to this so don't rely on my advice but I think a school of maybe 3-5 green chromis would look really cool and add some color and movement to your tank. Also maybe pyjama cardinals? they seem to be pretty tame...

    RODI Question

I hooked up my rodi unit last week and I'm wondering how you guys solve the shut auto shut off since its water pressure driven. right now i'm using the "don't forget to turn it off" method which will in time yield a flooded laundry room - guaranteed. if you have pics of your setup and its...

new lighting wow what a difference...

i know what you mean. I recently switched from pc to mh and my jaw about hit the floor. I leave my actinics on from one hr before the MHs till one hour after.

How do I get rid of microbubbles?

Ok I've spent some time staring at my sump and here's what i've come up with. The sump is divided into three sections. First is the crash box where the overflow drains in to. Lots of movement and bubbles there. This chamber then overflows into the middle larger section which houses my protein...
