    Some new macro shots

Yep, the XTi will accept any EF or EF-s mount.

    Some new macro shots

Sorry that I missed your question, I used a Sigma 150mm F/2.8 macro lense for those shots. I don't use Nikon so I really don't know what is compatible with your camera though.

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

I'll pick up some of those irrigation valves that you mentioned from HD and give those a shot once the aqualifters show up. But I did pull the trigger on the AC Jr., DC8, lab PH probe, etc, and hopefully I'll have everything by the end of the week. This thread sure has taken a few turns from...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

The search for a good digital timer has left me unimpressed...what about using an AC Jr controller? I could program two of the outlets to dose independently and even shut off if the PH raises too high. I'm guessing the timers on that thing would be more dependable than a cheap-o timer from Home...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

As long as something local is available I'm good with that. I'll post back in here once I get all of the materials and give it a whirl. Thanks a ton for your responses Don, you have been most helpful!

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

I'm sure it take a little trial and error to get the flow rate correct. I've ordered two aqua lifters and just got all of the materials to make the two part. I'll test the flow once they show up and maybe throw on one of these on each tube and adjust as needed...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

Sounds like a sweet little setup that you are setting up, I sure wish you were a little closer so I could check it out. Specs on the aqualifter pump state about 3.5 gal/hr, which is about 200ml per minute, and obviously more output that I'm looking for. What do you think would be the best option...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

Do you think aqualifter pumps would be better? It seems they would sure dose much more solution than a peristaltic pump so I'm sure some type of drip regulator or something would be needed. I don't really see any other option than using plug-in timers for me though. Is there something else that...

    Local sources for DIY two-part?

I believe Prestone Driveway heat works well enough but is more concentrated (less water content) that Dow Flakes. Where did you find the driveway heat at? I went to Lowes, Home Depot, and Fred Meyer with no luck. I figured I would just order up the materials from twopartsolution.com since their...

    Local sources for DIY two-part?

Does anyone know if a place around here carries Dow flakes or another calcium chloride product? I looking to use Randy's DIY recipe to make two-part solution for calcium/alkalinity. Thanks.

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

Do you think there is any issue with using a single timer to control the pumps simultaneously? I thought I read somewhere it's better to dose the two-part solutions separately since they will precipitate. Something like Part A at midnight, Part B at 2am, etc. Maybe it would work if the output...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

I was hoping to find a digital timer that had two programmable outputs rather than buying two completely separate timers/outlets. I haven't checked out Lowes/HD yet as I'm still mulling things over. About the pump, I thought it would be easier to just go timer to pump versus have a 12v adapter...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

I did a google search for Welco and can't find them anywhere other than Tokoyo. What about these peristaltic pumps? http://www.iprocessmart.com/instruments_1.htm EDIT: Apparently the link doesn't take you directly to the product; scroll down to pumps, and then click on SP100 to see which one I'm...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

I was hoping you would chime in here Don. I have also read that calc reactors will work better with a peristaltic pump as well. I figure if I need to buy a P pump, I might as well just get two of them and use two-part in gallon jugs. What do you think of these pumps? I would just DIY both of...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

I came across an interesting thread on RC that is debating a calcium reactor vs. a two-part system. I'm only on page 5 of 13 so I still have some reading to go but an automated two-part system via dosing pumps may be an easier option since my tank is fairly small. I really need to figure out...

Should I do this? Is it safe?

Doh, I'm too slow. Thanks for the explaination about the PH thing Don. I haven't had a problem yet but that doesn't mean that I'm not a higher risk to purchase stuff through.

Should I do this? Is it safe?

I'm curious about the kalk/PH as well since that's what I do. Back to the shipping...are you doing overnight shipping? I ship corals on a regular basis and here is what works best for me. I always use FedEx overnight. I drop the coral off at my local FedEx right before the cut off time (5:30pm...

Help w/planning for a calcium reactor

Thanks for the replies so far guys, I think I'm starting to understand how one of these things work. I snagged a picture from the Geo website that shows a pretty good diagram on how it is setup. -Does the peristaltic pump replace the output reactor valve in this diagram? I'm guessing the P...
