    Powerheads for wave makers

The seio's shaft will break if used on a wavemaker over time. They are also VERY noisy. The seio controller reduces the powerheads output by 50% and then ramps it back up. This way it will not break the shaft because it is more gentle. It can control only two seios and changes there output...

    Chaetomorpha

I don't have any in my main tank but I suppose you could. It would be better in a refugium. Unlike most algae's this stuff can easily be moved or removed so you could put it in main tank. I would be concerned about it laying on some livestock or pluging up some pumps or drains though.

    Powerheads for wave makers

The mjmods company does not recomend the mods on a wavemaker although some people do use them that way. I did alot of research in this area and decided not to do it. Still not sure what I will do :( Check out the maxi mod on this site...

Adding sand on top of existing dsb?

I have a 55 gal reef in my care that has a 3" sand bed in it. I would like to increase the depth by an inch or so to increase denitrification. Would this help? Can it be added on top of existing bed without problems? Thanks, Greg

acclimating and mounting fresh cut sps?

Kevin- "5-7 low light medium flow is usually good", after this point would you go ahead and place them up higher in permanent location? Thanks, Greg

acclimating and mounting fresh cut sps?

I was wondering what the best way to handle freshly cut sps frags. I will be getting some at the end of the week and I want to do this right. I have heard and experienced fresh cut frags dying as a result of glueing them once I recieved them (rtn). I have heard it's better to let them adjust...

    Ozone on mixed reef?

Yes I do own both of the skimmers. I was just considering all my options before deciding what to do. Any idea how long the americle skimmer would last with ozone use? Months or years? Thanks, Greg

    Ozone on mixed reef?

Thanks for your consideration. I was thinking the same thing. I agree, it's a poor skimmer but still costs around $180. Any idea how long it would last before ozone has it's way with it? I'm thinking I will be injecting a fairly low amount. Could I get a few years out of it? When it does...

    Ozone on mixed reef?

Thanks for the fast response. Any idea about that ASM skimmer? The air coming out around the collection cup is a problem and perhaps a bigger one is the way the skimmed water leaves the skimmer. It travels up a tube and then kinda overflows around it falling down. Would it be ok to 90' off...

    Ozone on mixed reef?

Any suggestions as to how much ozone to inject? My entire system is about 160gal. The current orp value averages around 350 without ozone injected. I think I want to inject enough to take the egde off, perhaps increase light output a bit and improve misc compunds created by a mixed reef...

    Good flow for mixed reef?

I read an article that talked about creating a circular pattern of flow (for larger tanks) around the reef structure with one or two pumps. It said that this can create a good flow pattern and higher velocity in the upper region while the lower portion of the reef recieves less flow which would...

    Ozone on mixed reef?

I have a 150g mixed reeftank with softies, lps, sps, and anemones. I was wondering if running a little ozone would help reduce the chemical effects on my sps from the softies? I have an adjustable redsea ozone generator along with a controller. I already run carbon to help with this but...

Lighting Question(s) for Anthony and all!

It's a 150 gal, 6' long, 29"tall mixed reef with mainly lps and softies. I currently have 2 175w 12k MH and 2 vho actinics. What I think I want to do is to discontinue the actinics and start using my third metal halide that I haven't yet used. I want to have all 3 metal halides to be around...
