    Does carbon remove disolved solids?

I believe carbon is mostly used for removing odor.

Just to make sure I'm doing this right

I would find something that will fit under your tank. Depending if you are going with a internal pump or external pump. You can use a exsiting tank and chamber it with glass and silicon or you could have a acrylic box made to your specifications. As far as sizes for the different areas...

    Anemone help

Yes, I totally agree with you. Originally the 29 setup was just to house the live rock and stuff while He worked on his bigger tank. I believe someone got him some presents for his new system. Sometimes it is hard to keep a Anemone even in a large tank. The longer you can wait the better off...

    sump?

When you add on the sump keep in mind that the pump return line will be a siphon if you loose power. All Glass drills a small hole under and in the crook of the elbow or 90. Since yours is not internal you may drill a small hole just below the water line and at a slightly downward angle. When...

    sump?

Yu might try a overflow box that has two drains, but I do no think you would have a big enough resevour to keep up with the out put. May give it a try and see if it would work. Make sure you keep the overflow box clean. Very interesting in trying that though.

    sump?

You do not mention the size of your drain. You can only put in as much as can drain out. On the CL system is your tank already drilled for this? A actual closed loop does not run through the refugium. It takes tank water and recirculates it back through the tank. I do agree with the amount...

    plumbing issue

Just a quick add to your reply. Some pumps need or require some back pressure for the pump to work effeciently. This is also a reason for a valve on the return line.

    Anemone help

I believe you are correct on a couple of items. You cannot place a anemone where you want it. The animal moves to find the correct flow that it likes. The reason it seeks these places out is to ensure it can catch food in the water stream. If it has better light then it can live from the...

    Anemone help

Yes I can agree with the rushing part, we have all done it :) But a high light is not required for a anemone. I know you will not get all the colors without the light, but it does not mean it will not survive without high light. I have a couple of smaller tanks that are very low budget. One...

    Anemone help

Not to ring any bells here but 130 watts over a 29 gallon tank is adaquate light for a anemone. I believe his problem is that his tank was not at proper salinity, he had high nitrates. He has not cycled his tank and he has added to many animals to a "unhealthy house" Need to slow down and get...

    plumbing issue

Why are you putting a ball valve on the drain side of your tank?? You can only drain as much as pumped in. You should have a free flowing drain or you could end up with a flooded floor. The slurping sound is the air that is needed for the "drain" to occur. If the air is not allowed to pass...

    50 gal protein skimmer?

    RO/DI solution? anyone?

The "booster" pump is usually required in areas that have low water pressure or if you are use a membrane that makes 100+ gallons a day. Those membranes reqiure a higher pressure in order to produce the water volume. If you have low water pressure then a pump will help, if you do not have low...

    how to frag

Just cut a piece of the top off with some sharp scissors. Place or glue the piece to some rubble or a frag plug. place it around the same place in the tank for about a week. then give your friend a call.
