Maybe it's an Eunicid worm? Scary!

    QT for inverts & corals

4 weeks is really on the shorter side of things for most people who are serious about quarantine... 8-10 weeks is completely reasonable to accommodate observation and treatment periods (for fish). As far as coral/inverts go, it really depends on what you are trying to keep out. If you are on...

    Yellow Tang with fin rot

I haven't been on this thread for a little while, I'm so sorry to hear about the tang :( Sometimes there just isn't a whole lot you can do when you receive them in condition like that, don't beat yourself up about it. Do wait and do a little more research before you replace him, but I hope this...

    Yellow Tang with fin rot

Ph is a little high, optimal range is 8-8.4. You need to get your ammonia levels down. Keep an eye on it for now. What are you using to read salinity? Refractometers are the most accurate and reliable tool for this. I recommend investing in one if you are currently using a hydrometer. Also, if...

    Yellow Tang with fin rot

I can tell by the color and bulge around his stomach that you have been feeding him the past few days he has been in your care. Keep it up, you will be surprised how much something as simple as that will do. If you notice him getting any worse, go through the treatment process that I mentioned...

    seafood food

How old is the tank? I feed a ton and haven't had cyano for years, only did for about the first 6 months of the tank's existence. I'd also check out the flow possibility. I've been running an mp60 on my 210 and maybe I've started taking it for granted. There's also a cyano control thread you...

    seafood food

I'm with Todd on this one! I admittedly feed my fish almost every time I walk by the tank... they beg, I can't help it! I have a big skimmer and do weekly 50g water changes to help counter it though. I've also been looking into making my own food. Those food choppers certainly make it a little...

    Cerith snails reproducing?

I have seen mine lay eggs in the tank before. They don't have any right now so I found this pic online for you as a reference: That's a great snail to have reproducing in your tank :) They are very useful for sand beds

    Tang police, I need answers

I'm glad to hear that Mac, in the pic he looks much bigger. Vlamingi tangs tend to have that goofy teenage look until they are over 10" though! A chocolate tang would probably be ok for a 90. They get fairly large but don't grow that quickly (ime). Mine is around 7" but I've had him for years...

    Tang police, I need answers

Mac, my hackles are up... Don't wait until the fish is half the length of the tank before you find it a new home. I usually don't speak up on issues that would get the "tang police" riled up (see my tank), but a vlamingi has to be the single worst choice for a small tank. They grow very quickly...

Yellow Tang Rescue - Fin rot

Thanks. I'm glad they are shaping up :) We can't put off upgrading any longer. My Achilles tang wants to SWIM! I have a couple of fish that are growing fast, plus with this new build I'll get a sump room. May have to post a thread for it :)

Yellow Tang Rescue - Fin rot

Update I haven't gotten you guys an update in a while so here it is. I promise one of these days I'll get a real camera and stop playing with my iPhone, but I'm throwing all my extra money at a new build! I'll have the great big tank up within a couple of months (hopefully). It's sitting...

    New Era Marine Mini Grazer

Well according to the "Features and Benefits" section there's less waste, and so improved water quality.

    Two Barred Spinefoot Rabbitfish

Probably a wise choice. The Ctenochaetus (bristletooth) genus of tangs do great in smaller environments, as do yellow and purple tangs. There is still a lot of variety you get to choose from :)

    Two Barred Spinefoot Rabbitfish

My experience with rabbits is that they grow fast, and get wide. I don't see mine needing the swimming space that my tangs do. He tends to just mosey along unless he sees food, then he actually swims! Liveaquaria does list them at getting 11" and I would hold them to that. Like I said, fast...

    New Era Marine Mini Grazer

I would be impressed if this lasted for 4 hours in my tank. I have some BIG tangs and now an algae eating parrot! They are a little spendy, I would need the 290g. I'm seeing those for around $33. I'm not sure how many grazers come in that container so I will need to try and find more info on the...

    New Era Marine Mini Grazer

Has anyone tried this stuff? I'm looking for something to keep my tangs grazing without having to constantly put seaweed in the tank. They go through 4 sheets a day, and I'm hoping to save a little money. Does the grazer stay fairly solid until it's been devoured? I don't want something that...
