    MACNA Boston

Yes it was really nice to meet everyone. I only wish more people had put their user names on their name tags. I am sure we could have had the pleasure of speaking to more people that way. Overall a good time was had by all. It is sad that there was undue commotion over the appearance of Anthony...

    How To?

Making some extra water is a good idea. A large container with good water circulation and protein skimming would be good also. Did you ever consider not moving the tank,a nd having them carpet around it. This is a solution if you are not planning on moving in the near future. I carpeted around a...

    Dead Rock to live rock?

I also agree that over time dead L.R. skeletons will turn into L.R. Results will vary, and it may be longer then sooner. I also use home made aragacrete, but I found it to be very dense and heavy. As a side note, when I first set up my tank with some dead rock, aiptasia made it's way over to the...

    Whats on your bottom?

Bare bottom and I am very pleased with the results. No starboard either. Now coraline algae is taking over the bottom. I do have to siphon out detritus and my diatom filter has been taken out of moth balls. No nuisance algae what so ever.

    Seio Powerheads

You will not feel a comcentrated stream as in a power head. That is the upside to these Seio units,as well as their lower price. As far as longevity,Taam is now going to be using this design in all of their powerheads. They are not meant to be used on a timer. They are also coming out with a...

    T-5 lighting Question

Even though the upside of T-5's are their longer useful life and lower electricity consumption;Your SPS corals will be happier with M.H. lighting.

    Spa-Flex solvent

I have used both the rain and shine as well as the standard PVC solvent and they both worked well.I would use the rain and shine. Alternatively www.savko.com (no affiliation)sells a PVC solvent specifically for flex PVC, I have used this also.

    External or Internal Pump?

You can use a ball valve on the out put side(not intake) to cutail the flow. The Sequence Dart is a quite pump that can also be useful on a larger set up. However it requires a 2" intake. How much flow are you looking to achieve?

    PLEASE HELP!!! What is this?

It was difficult to see in the picture above, but from what you stated it appears that a couple of mushrooms have died off, since they are no longer present where you noticed the slime. They become a jellied mess in the process. If you see more of this you should sypon it off the rock. A piece of...

    New 450 gallon SPS tank

Thanks Matt. In the picture below. You see two female Pink Square Spot Anthias which are both completely yellow in the photo.I also purchased a slightly larger male who has been chased by one of the two yellow females above. Consequently one of the females, who is pretty much full grown, is...

    New 450 gallon SPS tank

Chris,I have a few tangs so I'm with you. It is nice to break it up with a Reef Fish that will get along with them. Scott, I only mention a larger tank because they usually come in at the 5-6" range, and they can use some room to swim.Of course the tangs need room also,so they are a great...

    New 450 gallon SPS tank

Chris,Yes they are Reef safe. He has been a model citizen. Kevin described his personality well. They are not overly aggressive and do not cause a comotion during feeding. At least towards other fish. They hover around and do not get involved with your Tangs,Corals or Clams. I was tempted to get a...
