how many and what size VHOs?

nah I am going to go with the 250's I just dont need the punch with the starboard on the bottom reflecting the light back. With 10k 250w's I should be fine. I can't justify the additional 600watts with the 400's

how many and what size VHOs?

you guys are great! Hey martin how's my old coral beauty doing? I miss that fish. Anywhos, Elmo is that from the front of the tank to the back or side to side? Not that it probably matters but just wondering. I like the growth I can get from the 10k halides but I like a bluish tint that i...

how many and what size VHOs?

I am in the planning phase on my new tank for the new house(building a house around the tank) Tentative dimensions right now are 72x48x26 with 4 lumenarc III's over them with 250w XM's. My quandry right now is 4 48" VHO's or 3 or 4 72" VHO's. I can't decide, the 72" are going to give me more...

Why Buy Wild when Aquacultured is cheaper?

I would pay double for the aquacultured ones as well because they are much hardier than the wild caught stuff. Same with corals, leave the colonies in the ocean and aquaculture instead! :)

    Reef Ceramics

cost is supposed to be a little more expensive that the best "show" rock that there is out there. I really don't like the looks of the stuff, as far as whether or not it will cause any damage remains to be seen. There are several people with large tanks that use it and have reported no side...

    cold water reef pics

steve, what approximate location are you getting the WA critters from? Is that were you get the strawberry anemones? How big are those boxfish going to get? Hopefully not like a longhorn cowfish. Isaac

    cold water reef pics

thanks for posting the pics steve! I have a few questions about these temperate water tanks. Do the same standards apply for a sand bed as far as crashing goes? Any fighting between the boxfish in the tank? Can us locals get in on the livestock that you are getting? These are mostly...

    Diff between Ozone and UV

So let's hear it, what is the difference between running ozone and UV? I was reading a reply that Jerel(Bomber) made on RC and he mentioned that he uses UV and gets the same results without the "danger" factor of Ozone. I know that mike runs ozone and UV on his tank and I can't seem to find...

Air stone skimmers: Beware of the wrong items sent!!

I have dealt with the folks at AES a few times on some larger orders and they screwed stuff up each time. They are always good about fixing it but I UNLIKE YOU ALBERTO planned for this... hehehehe ;) The boys right out of highschool that work in the wharehouse aren't paying attention I guess...

Airstone Skimmer Question for Mr. Mojoreef

read through that thread on skimming to determine the exact needs for your skimmer just to double check my calculations. :)

Airstone Skimmer Question for Mr. Mojoreef

If you have an aquaticeco catalog the stones that you need are the ones that are advertised as the "ultra-fine" pore stones. I think they are the Gen II but I cannot recall for the life of me. For the size tank you are talking about I would get two 6" stones. Your air pump will be based off...

    Jiddy is Hot, soooo Hot!

as an anecdote, I use a mag 9.5 to cycle my RO water out in the uninsulated garage and last night I went out and check just for fun and it had my 35gals of RO water at about 78 degrees. Ambient temp outside was about 39degrees. Mags make lots of heat.

A 750g SPS system is born

after a little more poking around I found this http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?genusname=Novaculichthys&speciesname=macrolepidotus same as a dragon just pertier. So, NEVERMIND!

A 750g SPS system is born

you pretty much echo my thoughts about the fish. They didnt bill it as REEF SAFE as much as they said it would eat the acro flatworms. Sounds to me like 75% of the SPS in alberto's tank is gone thanks to these guys. The nudibranchs are a much safer plan as long as they dont have any other...

A 750g SPS system is born

what about one of these? They are touted on atlantic aquariums as eaters of flatworms. 40bux.

    Longhorn Cowfish

for the most part you want to avoid the similar bodied tangs like the Achilles and the Powder Blue, Brown and so on. You dont want a clown tang and a sohal tang in the same tank together as a general rule. There are always exceptions to these rules as I have seen fish like clown triggers...

    Mojo et al its time

since the house is new construction I am just going to have them build me a fish room for the tank instead of using existing space because I want to be able to have a concrete floor with a drain and all that stuff in the fishroom and only have the tank and stand in the display.

hehehe the girlfriend gets a steam room so I get to put my tank wherever I want it :) it needs to go somewhere in the room where it is now because I want to be able to look at the tank or the tv/projector screen without having to move alot.

after a little more thought on this I think 4 streams will be the hot ticket. Two in the back wall(same as the coast to coast overflow) about middle height and then two in each front corner pointing up and back towards the direct center of the tank. Just need some of them hideastream rocks.
