    Question regarding LED lights

alright sounds like you probably don't have a use for it now but I just got a chance to take some pics of the mounting arm. It fits in the pocket in the pvc sheet and holds the light 10.5" off of the stand which is I think ~2" off the water. I lost the CAD files for that whole build but I'm...

    Question regarding LED lights

ahh I was meaning to keep an eye on the forums in case you started a build thread for this tank. the hole(s) for the fuge light will fit one of these heatsinks: PC VGA Video Card Heatsinks Cooler Cooling Fan V7 NEW - eBay (item 220573552748 end time Mar-12-11 01:35:34 PST) if you give the...

(Another) Arduino Light Controller DIY build.

yes, that is one issue with using the for() statement to do the fade in/out, you can't easily start halfway into one. the easiest workaround is just to not reset it during ramp times, I found that once I stopped working on my setup I just never need to reset it so i haven't bothered to fix it...

(Another) Arduino Light Controller DIY build.

ahh don't worry about it I'm just giving you a hard time, I apologize for getting snappy about it. I posted a few different programs to a section of my website that I never publicly gave out links for and now I've seen them several times, usually with my info removed. what mostly bugs me is...

(Another) Arduino Light Controller DIY build.

looks remarkably familiar, its almost as if someone ripped that code off my website, removed my name and email and made a couple minor changes in hopes of passing it off as their own

    BOB Moore 2011 News.

That was my brother and law and I. Hope it works out for you and thanks for giving me an excuse to build myself a new tank, I'm always looking for those.

    What houses your lighting?

mines a smoke acrylic fixture I made since I couldn't find any lights small enough to retrofit with LEDs

    Live Rock Suppliers

A friend of mine got a box from gulf-view.com and it was awesome stuff, 30 pounds completely caked in coralline with two mantis shrimp and pretty much a full cleanup crew plus all kinds of sponges and macros. They hustle it all to the airport so its only out of the water for 8 hours or so. I...

Who has a coral that resembles something else (faces, people, objects, etc....)

for a while one of my mushrooms was attached inside a snail shell and it would retract all the way inside it sometimes. i think it had identity issues but it resolved them and attached to live rock a while later.

    Where we at these days???

The comparisons to MH are just what I have heard suggested and I'm curious myself, like I said I'll know a lot more once I finish my current project because I have a 150w icecap pendant+ballast with a phoenix 14k bulb that we are going to compare side-by-side with 16 cree xp-e royal blues and 8...

    Where we at these days???

LEDs are just starting to surpass MH in terms of raw efficiency But the thing about LEDs is they emit close to 100% of their light within 45 degrees of straight down, while the vast majority of the heat is transferred to the heatsink they are attached to. You can hold your hand half an inch...

    Mechanical filtration (other than skimming)

I run the same 100 micron filter fabric that is commonly used to make filter socks except just cut up in rectangles. It is the first thing the water goes through in my HOB fuge, so that the carbon and chaeto don't get loaded up with particles and detritus. I like it because its easier to change...

    AWWWWWW Tank Crash!

Don't trash anything until it is bare skeleton, you never know what'll come back. When my tank crashed in October I separated corals into 3 different buckets/tanks depending on how badly they were doing, and the worst were just in a room-temp bucket with an air stone for several days. In that...

    Sponge

i have at least 3 other kinds of sponges that don't bother anything and I leave be, but the white stringy stuff was intrusive and annoying. if thats what this is.

Seachem Prime and tap water instead of ro/di?

They use the same housings for their carbon/gfo reactors so what you are pretty much looking at is getting one of their dual reactors plus some filters to put in it. But the thing is that the filters are rated for a certain flow rate and I think if you just hook them straight up with no RO...

    Sponge

I don't know, I didn't really look into that. I'm sure there are species of nudibranches that eat sponges but getting your hands on some could prove difficult.

    Sponge

is it white, stringy stuff? if so i had that stuff overtake my HOB fuge and it was choking out the chaeto, covering my heater and just generally causing problems. tried peeling it out by hand but I ended up having to take the whole HOB filter off the tank and scrub it all down to the coralline.

Seachem Prime and tap water instead of ro/di?

bulkreefsupply has a build your own RO option and it can be configured to be a 3 stage, and they build all their systems in-house so I bet if you called them up they would also do a two stage filter with no RO membrane for a reasonable price. they are a sponsor here and i've ordered a ton of...

Seachem Prime and tap water instead of ro/di?

RO systems with low waste water ratios (under 2:1) will either have multiple membranes to reclaim some of the waste water or microcontrollers with valves etc to flush out the system every time it is turned off so that the membrane sits in pure water during down time to prevent fouling. The one...
