Yes snails will help a bit. I dont think shrimp are going to help with algae break outs. Get some Astraea snails, and a turbo snail. They will be good for helping out with algae.
I would suggest that when you can, get a larger powerhead or two for a little more flow too.
If the algea is covering any corals, use a turkey baster to blow them off and keep them clean.
As for food, what I use is, frozen Mysis, frozen Formula One, fresh raw tiger shrimp, fresh raw scallops & frozen oyster eggs. Chop up the shrimp and scallops and then mix everything together and freeze it. Then I break off a chunk, the size of one of those frozen brine shrimp cubes, to feed 6 fish once a
day. The food also gets soaked in vitamins. I also feed nori strips and red and green seaweed a couple times a week.
There are so many different frozen foods. It can be hard to decide what is best to use.
Use a variety. Make your own.
