My YT who has always "kind of" rubbed on the rocks decided today that it really wanted to, she has stress lines (looks like blood under her skin, like a blood blister) on the under side of tail and blotches on her body, you can tell that this is from rubbin the rock which she is still doing, needed some suggested on what it might be and what i should do to fix it, i will get my water parameters posted tomorrow, TIA

The two things outlined here to be concerned about here are possibley HLLE, a bacterial/viral condition or possibley a pH related issue. More commonly if the red areas are more streaked (elongated) than blotch's (roundish) it will be a low pH problem. If blotch's, bacterial or viral would be more evident. Although not difinitive, a pic may help.

Please definately post the water parameters/chemistry. Also post the history of the fish and tank mates as well as the QT process if any.

Cheers

Sorry to hear that Jiff and I'm sorry I can't offer you any advice, but I hope you get it all sorted out.

In addition to HLLE is it showing any symptoms of Crypto Irritans ? When my YT developed HLLE he never rubbed himself on the rocks so maybe yours also has a parasitic infection.

Jiddy,
sounds like your fish has a parasite infestation, just like dogs and cats they will scratch and rub on the rocks trying to rid themselves of these pests, sounds like a krypto problem. probably time to quarantine your fish, Good luck, keep us updated...

Thanks for the replies all, not really sure what to do here, as far as QT that would be pretty hard,i dont have one set up. My water param's are as followed and i tried to take some pics..... also the first night i noticed this was the worst and now you can see the spots but they are faded where the first day they were really red, havent noticed her bumping/rubbing rocks recently either.

Amm under .25
Nitrate under 10
Nitrite 0
Phos .03
Alk (not sure if i did this right) 3.43
Cal 400ppm

i read that you can do Fresh water baths with Methylene blue, daily for 3-5 mins for 5-7 days.
Let's see what the others say

You did not post the pH? Also include the time of day tested...

Still hard to be difinitive but I would lean towards a pH issue at this point given the red streaks are fading. I would strongly recommend several large water changes (25%+) every few days over the next week. Use well aged/aerated water and be sure to monitor the pH daily. If possible I would suggest monitoring it three times daily for the next few days to see what the low and highs are. Early AM, mid day (relative to photperiod) and evening will help determine and average as well as stability. Please post those results.

Posting the fish's history and the history of the last few fish added including timelines will help eliminate certain possibilities.

If the water changes don't improve things after a few days, you will need a QT.

i totally agree with Steve, Jiddy and Jiddy's wife.
check your ph as much as you can and try to get the qt tank dood, it's gonna save you a lot of trouble.

hmm in my own opinion and since i don't know how big is the fish, i believe it's kind of small for it, i think may be a 20 gal would be a little bit better for it.

I want to give everything vitamins/garlic, selecon now with food. I am wondering if that would improve your tangs health also. I hope it pulls out of it soon. If it were me I would try healthiest diet until you can get your tang out for QT if you do. Your tang is eating, which is fantastic... :)

The easy part is buying a food with vitamins/garlic in it. Kevin @Aquatic Dreams has one. I wish I could remember name (I am at work), the other is Spectrum thera A. Selecon can be added to food before feeding. I wish I could be more informative, but I am at work and do not have jars of food in front of me, I appoligize.
