I have had my Koran Angel for just over a week now, and it is starting to act very strange. When I turn on my lights in the tank it swims very erratic "crazy", but is perfectly fine with no lights on or not as bad with just the actinic light on. I have my lights on a timer so that they are not on all day. Yesterday I came home from the store and the actinic lights were on and the fish looked discolored in the middle. I know that it is starting to mature but this looked different. Is there something that attacks with the lights on? The tank is by a window and gets a little bit of filtered sunlight. It eats very good with a varied diet of Mysis, Brine, OSI pellet, Flake, and Algae strips. Thanks for the help......

Ease back on the meat some and nix the flake. Try not to rely too much on the pellets either. Most freeze dried/dried foods are very nutritionally lacking. Very important that all foods of this type are stored in the freezer as well. Bacteria in the foods will cause internal infections.
Are you using vitamin/HUFA additives at all? If so which brand(s)?

By the sounds of it, the angel is reacting to the light. Fish can become stressed/shocked by quick changes in light intensity or very bright lighting. Does the dicolored area on the fish fade after a little while or remain like that throughout the day? Other than the actinics, what lights do you have/what intensity?

Was the angel QT'd prior to adding to the main, how long have you had the angel, what tankmates?

Cheers
Steve

Steve, It is in the QT and i have a Aust Harlequin Tusk which is fine. I just put this light fixture on the tank. I did pick up a bottle of Vita-Chem today and will try that with the feedings. The color came back after about 30 minutes with the lights off. My LFS told me to introduce the lights slowly so I will try that. Thanks for the information...

You don't need light on a QT except to check the health/progress of the fish. Otherwise it is nothing more than a source of stress. Keep in mind that the fish are in a fairly "bare bones" tank and can easily feel threatend and exposed.

Keep the light off unless necessary. Ambient room light is plenty.

What intensity was the light, what size QT?

Cheers
Steve
