I have coraline I can scrape for you if you want Jayson. By the way the tank is looking pimp!! You will be very happy with the 40b for a long time:cool:!

If you have some patience, it will do it on it's own. Just toss in some shrimp or whatever you have and test as you normally would. In a couple weeks it should be fine. It doesn't matter if the rock has bacteria on it or not, it will when you're done.

Well the rock I bought was pre cured dry rock. I'm pretty sure it does not need to go through a cycle. I just want coraline to start growing and pods to take over...:)

Exactly, it's dead meaning no bacteria is on it at all. You're going to have to start a bacteria population before you put any livestock in the tank unless you want the cycle to start then. You can either do it using food or ammonia. Either way, you need to get bacteria on the rock before you put anything in the tank. It's not a matter of curing the rock, it's just a matter of cycling it for bacteria to grow.

I guess that makes sense I just thought since it was cured I could just add the good stuff like pods and other critters and call it good. I guess I'll throw in a piece of shrimp to get the nh4-n02-no3 process going then first. I was hoping I didn't have to do this but looks like I need to again...

Some new pics of the new rockwork...took about 10-15 lbs out and opened up the aquascape a little.:) The water is almost all cleared up!:D

looks great and good you are not in a rush, I am always in a rush, I want it and I want it now!

Looks great!

Jayson, if you don't plan on using the rock, I'll buy it off ya. Besides, it'll give me a reason to come over since you never invite me over anymore. :(

Hahaha your welcome anytime! Come over tonight if you would like!:) Just call my cell. The only thing is I need some of the rock for my sump so I'll give you one rock if you want it. Just bring over any test kits so I can test my params like nh4, n02, n03, ph and alk. I got rid of all mine...:(

When did you start cycling it? If you're starting out completely dead with no seed rock or sand, you're gonna have to wait 3 days or so before you start to notice a drop of ammonia to trites. I don't think I'd be able to come over tonight, but I can certainly drop off tests tomorrow for you if you'd like. I've got API tests for ammonia/trites/trates and elos for alk. I've got a ph tester for ph that you can certainly borrow for a while cause I don't even use it anymore.

Well the rock went in Sunday night and the shrimp a couple days ago. I just want to see where I'm at. I might just grab the test kits tonight at petsmart or something. Sat afternoon your welcome to come by, just give me a call.:)

Hey Adam! I didn't notice much of a spike if any...The two pieces of shrimp are still in the sump. I did another test tonight and ammonia is 0, nitrites 0, and nitrates around 10 or so. I have yet to see the algae growth but it should come around in the next 2 weeks I would assume. I think I'm going to grab 5-10 lbs of uncured l/r and throw it in the sump to seed it. It's been awhile since I cycled a tank...
