If you think about it no fish belong in any tanks if that is the case. No home aquaria is as vast as a reef. I know some species don't travel as much but I'm sure they too would like bigger tanks than 10g pico right. When we put any live stock in our aquarium that becomes their prison. We lock people up in 6'x6' cell that commit major crimes but then again the fish we care for didn't commit any crime but than we still imprison them whether it is a 1g or 1000g tank. To me either way I look at it no home aquaria is big enough for any fish if we take the whole reef into perspective. I understand the whole providing a suitable home for the animals you take into your care and that is what we all strive for and should do. It seems like when ever someone see a tang in a small tank someone freaks but then people that has 5-10g pico it's Ok to throw blennies , chromis and any other little fish in there and no one cares about those little guys all they say is how cute. What about the rest of the fish out there do we not care about them?

Roscoe, what you say is completely true, but different fish have different needs. Some tangs, angels, puffers, etc. stay small and dont swim as far. Some school and travel miles. The point isn't just trying to be the best pet keeper possible, it is also to maintain a fish's heath. I have seen tangs in small tanks get disease and HLLE or die vastly more often than in a large tank with more things to nibble on and room to exercise in. Not a matter of ethics nor morality, a matter of providing the greatest chances of healthy survival.

I completely understand. Now I got to recruit some gobies, blennies and all the other little fish to police their species :lol:

I knew this was coming sooner or later...Anybody looking for a pb tang?

My eyes were bigger than my tank...seeing the poor guy in a little 4-5 gallon holding tank I just had to give him a shot in my system.

My second favorite fish after Navarchus angel!
Sadly even my 72 is about 1/2 the size need for this magnificent specimin or I'd be going for it.

Suggest 6' long as in 125 or 180 gallon.

Yes this is my favorite fish without a doubt! I think that is why I gave in to buying the poor guy. I should have gone w/ my instinct and left the fish at the lfs...:)

The hardest part of downsizing, was selling all my pet tangs and angels. They went to a dear friend with a MONSTER sized tank, sent along with all the right foods.

Jayson, you should be ashamed. I should come over and slap ya upside the head for what you've done. Then again, I could let you off with just a slap on the wrist if you let me have that tang for my 125. :) Of course it's your choice, but I think you'd be much happier with the slap on the wrist.

I just might do that Kerry! The only thing is it developed MI a couple days ago and the spots have for the most part disappeared. I'm pretty sure it has it so you might have to qt it for 6+ weeks:) Maybe some xenia for my fuge in exchange for the tang.

What!! Hey he can join my chevron and PB LOL! You funny I think you are OK with it. The only two draw back I see in your tank right now is that it is new for one and you have nothing growing for a grazing fish to graze on through out the day to keep him happy until feeding time. I think it is small enough for your tank and probally can keep it for a good 6 months or more until it gets bigger and then pon him off to someone with a bigger system. People are always looking for a healthy established PB tang.

Just put a nice 5 lb established piece of l/r to seed the tank and give something for the pb to graze on. I'll keep him in the tank as long as he's healthy and small enough. Your right I already have a couple people that want him...:D
