Hi all!

Just wondering if you all have some spots you can recommend to go tent camping.

My husband's idea of camping involves a 5th wheel or the Holiday Inn, lol, but the kids and I like something a little more rustic so we compromise-car camping with a tent and everything we can cram into the car at a place with water, bathrooms and showers.

I know there are lots of places on the Peninsula to camp, just looking for some places to start! If I don't have to worry about reservations, that's a plus.

Thanks :)

Darn, none of my fave spots are car-camping friendly.

Always used to be a hiking elitist, it wasn't camping if you didn't have to hike to get there. Now I have a bum knee... but then again, due to finances and kids, I haven't been able to go hiking *or* camping in years. That finally comes to an end this fall, but I don't think my kids can bear to be separated from their computers and curling irons. Besides, who'd look after the tanks?

my favorite camping spot is not in washington...heck it isnt even in the us....but bamf(sp) canada is so nice

Banff is gorgeous!

Lots of bears though, at least when we went camping there when I was a kid. But that was back in the days when people still fed the bears at Yellowstone

I go to Lake Cushman / Staircase every year and love it. A coulpe of years ago the state closed Lake Cusman State Park, but Tacoma Power took it over and continues to operate it. The web site says there is no overnight camping, but that's not true. You just have to call for reservations. Staircase has ~55 site that are first come first serve.

We went to Owhi this past June (pronounced owee, as in a boo-boo :D). It's up past Cle Elum about 20 miles. It was really nice for car camping. Beautiful scenery, and just about every site has a nice lake/mountain view. No reservations, but get there early, by Saturday morning, it was pretty full...

We like Salt Creek over by Neah Bay. It's the most incredibly scenic place I've been to! Also Kopachuk (sp?) not far from Tacoma is very lush and beautiful.
