Quick question on these chalice frags. They're currently in my frag rack which you can see in previous photos is just a little more than half way up the side of my tank on the left. Is this the best place for them to hang out for a while or should I put them on the bottom either in shaded or open lighted areas?

PS thank goodness for Melafix, found this guy hiding out.

Hey Jarod,

Ya know... when they all grow up you're going to need a bigger tank. Thats the plan I have to talk my wife into a 300-400g system "Honey they're starting to crowd eachother so as a responsible reefkeeper I need to give them much more room" This happens to be a 2 year plan though and all my little frags should be begging for more room by then, haha

I think I've found the issue of my low magnesium. I use Instant Ocean Sea Salt for making my SW to do my weekly 15% water changes. I tested two buckets of 6 gallons, one at 1.026 and one at 1.022 salinity and the mag came out at 1110 and 1050 respectively. So when I tested my tank that seemed appropriate that my mag levels were the same. I now will get in the habit of dosing my SW for my weekly water changes so that my mag levels will stay up at around 1300-1350.

I spot feed all my LPS, including my open brain an bubble, a mix of Oyster Feast, Cyclopeeze, small frozen mysis, and PE mysis (big guys). The fish try to get at this too.

i used instant ocean eversince i started the hobby...i never dose and tested for mag until my lps started to retract and recede...then thats when i found out my mag was way too low...it was a bit late as i lost couple colonies of acans,a bunch frags of acans,a few chalices...
from then on..i dose mag..and everything went smoothly though it was really frustrating..it took a while for me to buy acans again but yeah it didnt stop me from loving this hobby..:D

btw i picked up a green bubble like yours at blue sierra today and wanna ask do they like a lot of flow?do they have long tentacles?how often do u feed yours?thanks

I've never really lost any corals due to mag issues, at least I don't think so. I've had some SPS when I first started that died but that was due to me not knowing what I was doing or testing my water for basic stuff. Then I just always thought that weekly 10% or more water changes was enough. I've been lucky I guess but now that I am monitoring it all, everyone seems happier in the tank.

I can only speak to mine but its in medium flow right now. I tried to block some current with the rocks around it so it wasn't in high flow. I only have one vortec that is on pulse mode about 75% max power. IMO that would be too much for the bubble but the rock provide turbulence and slow it down. I'd play around with placement and see but start in low flow and go higher if you want.

Yes the bubbles are cool but they do have sweeper tentacles. Some are always out but they get longer when the lights are off, some of mine are 4 inches or so. My bubble is on a rock on purpose so that it can't reach the guys in the sand bed and there is no one around the bubble just so it can't sting anything, at least down current. When I feed I turn off all pumps and fans and it blows up a little more but is more even over its base. I feed everyone in the tank a mix of oysterfeast, cyclopeeze, small frozen mysis, and large frozen PE mysis. I use the same mix to target feed the bubble. It's bar far the largest critter I have so it takes a lot of food. I target feed everyone about every other day or every two days. I feed the fish every other day. I was thinking of doing a small feeding every day and a larger feeding every other day but not sure yet. The bubble doesn't need to be spot fed, it can live off just the MH light but if you want growth and coloration spot feed it frequently. Once I started feeding my directly rather than letting it catch scraps its growth took off.

The bubble was actually the reason I started reefing. I saw one at SWC in Bellevue and wanted it so badly but they wanted two arms, a leg and your first born child for it. I ended up getting mine when it was a tennis ball size from BRA for just a pinky finger. :)

Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Hey Jarod,

Nice info on the LPS, I should have told you when you over the other day that I had to start dosing Mag and Kent Superbuffer-dKH because of all the SPS & LPS I've added.
My Favias and Acans were not doing well before dosing but are starting to fill out well again. That blue spotted mushroom dug its way out and detached , if you have another loose red or ? I'll trade ya again.
