Hi all...so what is new for 2013 at the Lost Creek Reef? Let's see....I discovered that you can CLEAN your return pumps. Did you all know that? I had noticed some changes in the water (it was the flow and bubbles actually) and I could not put my finger on what had changed exactly...the returns were doing their job, but in the most feeble of manners I Discovered when doing some other cleaning. I guess these pumps need cleaning too (after 4 years & 5 months), so I did. The cleaning took 2 days, a gallon of vinegar ans some elbow grease. I think I have NEVER had flow from these Eheim 1262's like this before. Now everybody is complaining about the water falls constantly running in the basement (aka Niagara Falls...Canadian side). Just can't make some people happy! I don't know if you can tell from the typing, but this is the first anything I've put out no my new computer...remember our Windows XP discussion at Devon's... so that old computer devolved rapidly to slower than a slug of late...the computer guy looked at the insides, laughed at all of the popped capacitors on various boards and proclaimed it not quite dead. I got a great deal on a new Dell running Win 7 (I can hear Charlie clapping now!). If the boot time is any indication, this thing is wicked fast! I will be working to get my Apex hooked up...after I recalibrate some other pumps after I go skiing with Matthew tomorrow. So here are a couple of quick pics from right now...the algae is in slow retreat. I harvest & am running GFO followed by carbon & things are getting there. A wise old reefer once told me nuthin' happens fast in a reef. Truth.

You are supposed to clean them.................................lol.....................oops.

Congrats on the new computer, at least you won't have to listen to us give you a ration of crap now for a while.

Thanx for the update Kevin, but I really think you should clean the coralline ;).

Now just a sec there Charlie...I AM cleaning the coraline...believe it or not, there is much less than a couple of months ago. My wrists can only take so much at a time....football will be on later today, perfect ime for another session of chipping away! We need to invent a robot coraline remover. Like one of those little carpet vacuums that roams around the room. How hard can it be with vertical surfaces, electricity & salt water involved???

Oh Kevin, I did not mean to upset the apple cart, I just figured it would be nice to see inside the bottom 1/4 of the tank.............................lol. Not that I am anyone to talk lately on my maintenance and dosing procedures.

water made, pumps worked over, calibrated & working, algae worked over. My arm is hash, killed 5 Pro-scraper blades working on the front of the display...sides a bit too. Neptune systems has folks that return emails on Saturday...nice! Paul had some suggestions that look helpful, so tomorrow I'll try with the controller.

Keep up the good work! Seems all of us are getting a little maintenance in. :)

It will be a miracle ;).

If you have not looked outside: Pigs Are Flying AND Hell Hath Frozen over & we are out ice skating on it as we speak!!! :yo: :yo:

This is the new computer display for the APEX on Google chrome. If you ask me to duplicate just exactly what I did to get all of this to work, I will admit it is dumb luck & perseverance....no brag (at all) just fact! Now... to figure out what to do wit all of this stuff!

yes Rob, the corals are doing well. I also had one of the infrequent, brief visits this morning by somebody you'd remember. He shows up every 2 or 3 or 5 weeks or so! He was out for about 45 seconds this morning...I think he's grown some! KD
