My new Nano!!!

Thank you Adam!! Right now it's dusty and cloudy as Michael just said, but it will be cleared up by morning. I like this new aquascaping better than before, even though there's not much of a difference. Michael also drilled some holes in the top of the arched rock so that I can' fit frag plugs up there. Mostly SPS will be going up on that arch. I can't wait....lol.

Tracy, yes, ours is on carpet. If we had it to do over, we might shop around for a different stand. This stand is nice looking, but not very usable. The inside of it is very small, with no room for much more than some test kits and food...lol.

IMO, most anemones are capable of getting way too large for this size tank. Our RBTA, which is actually among the species more appropriate for smaller tanks, easily expands to 18" in diameter or more. Most species of anemone get a lot larger.

We've had our anemone for almost five years and it will expand up to approx 9" when splitting, but that's it. Most of the time it stays a smaller size (like 6"). I read that they will expand to extreme sizes under lower light conditions and that the min. tank requirements are 30 gals. So if I got the 24 gal. I would be 6 gals off...

"Minimum tank requirements" that you read online vary such a great deal. Some of those same sites recommend a 70 for a Hippo Tang...lol. That's a reason I tend to not use guidelines of places that actually sell livestock. I'd rather get my information from, what I believe, is a more reliable source.
Also, keep in mind that with a AIO Nano, you aren't getting a true 24 gallons. That 24 includes the "sump" area that's behind the divider. Even though the tank is 16" front to back, you only have about 12" of that for the display.
Our RBTA was originally in a 29, but only for a short time. It was way too small for it. However, I have seen some RBTAs that tend to stay small, though I'm unsure why they do. I have read some theories about size and lighting, but I've also read opposite opinions. Ours is under 2X96 watt PC lighting. Most of the more reliable sites, such as wetwebmedia, agree that this is adequate lighting for this species. Once we upgrade out 46 to T5ho lighting, we'll see how the RBTA reacts...lol. I think it'll really like it.

I guess, to each their own, but as I said, IMO, it's too small of a tank.

Maybe start a thread about typical sizes of RBTAs and typical sizes of thanks that they're in. I think you'll find that your 6" anemone is an exception to the norm. But, if it stays that size, might be just fine in a Nano.

My RBTA is under a 400W halide and gets fed by its hosting clowns and never gets as big as yours. Like I said, I've had it for five years, so I don't think it'll get much larger unless of course I put it in lower light conditions. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Alrighty, back to the Nano thread . We added some live sand from our 75, this evening, to seed the sand bed. Starting to see a small amount of diatoms, WooHoo . The rock that went into this tank has been fully cured and sitting in a tote, with good circulation, water changes and testing, for about 2 months. Some of it even longer. Sooo, the diatom bloom, on the new sand bed, is what we've been waiting for. Probably give the diatoms a couple more days and then add some Nassarius snails. We should be ready to start adding some corals real soon!!

We do have a very little diatom bloom, which I'm surprised it's not bigger, but I'm ok with that. We did add 3 more Zoanthid rocks and a small frag of pink candy cane. I'll post some pics, but beware there a bit blurry....lol.

Here's some new pics. We're both still learning about the 100mm Macro we have, and it's frustrating sometimes...lol. So these are blurry and the FTS is over exposed. Enjoy anyway...lol.

I haven't Identified these zoas yet, but I like the coloration of them.

These are Pink Panthers.

These are a bit different then our other Radioactive Dragon Eyes, but there way brighter in person. Please look past that Aptasia...lol.

Dang, Thank you for the nice comments!! I think we're going to swipe a few snails from our other tanks and put them in there. The Rock was already cured, and most of the Diatom is under the rocks. I really noticed it when we moved them the other day. We're done adding corals for now. We'll let it sit for a bit.

I don't know if those are fire and ice. There a lot different then the fire and ice we have in our 75g. It was Michael's idea to put the pink candy cane in there and my idea for the arch rock....lol. It only took a little bit of begging for the arch rock....lol. When we come over again in July we could maybe bring you some stuff that you don't have if that's anything....lol. We have TONS of zoas!!! I love them!!

just thought i'd post a pic of the filtration i used to have set up on my ap24
i had one mj-1200 mod pushing 2000gph behind the rockwork for flow, and a octopus nw-150 skimmer in a 10g sump. it was a clean tank with high flow...lol

Mark, I really like that design!! How did you get water from AP24 to sump and back? I see what looks to be a return pump. How did you make sure that both pumps where pushing the same GPH so your water levels would be consistent?

Well, we haven't updated in several days, so here I go. Michael replaced the MJ900 on the Lock line with a MJ1200 and the flow is much better. We might replace the Hydor with a MJ1200 also, but haven't decided yet. We have a HUGE diatom bloom and I hate it. Need to get some snails. The stocking of the tank hasn't changed and won't for awhile do to funds, but soon I hope.
