Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

I switched salt mixes several months back from RC to RSCP. Changing just 5g bi-weekly, today I finished my first 55g bucket. Couple times I went an entire month between changes.
I?ve since lost my Brain Coral, my Zoa?s have significantly thinned and most recently I lost my entire Idaho Grape Monti.
My CC and Blasto Merletti are all pinched looking, not fully inflated. Although my Blasto Wellsi looks great as do my 2 Acans.
That?s my update.

And once again my beautiful Chaeto is dying off. My poor hammer is but a shadow of its once glorious self.
I?m thinking of going back to Reef Crystals, it?s the only change I?ve made in the last 6 months and the results have been all bad.

The Chaeto is getting choked out by a slimy green/brown algae. It also isn?t growing at all. Hair algae also grows freely on the fuge walls, which I promptly remove with every WC.
I?ve got a Korilia 250 pump in there and running a Utilitech Par38 5k LED lamp.
Not sure how much more to feed. I feed my fish 1-2x a day.

I?ve discovered that my SB issues were caused (believe it or not) by LRS Reef Frenzy frozen food. Especially a new package!
Seems the longer it?s in the freezer something in the food must become inert. My last package was over a year old, my SB cleared up.
2wks ago I bought a new pack and taaa daaa nasty SB issue is back. I?m going to try rinsing it off in tank water before feeding, hopefully this helps.
I do recall another reefer on R2R telling me that it was this food because he too had the same issue.

Fluconzanole to kill the bad?
Or maybe the gha goes with the sand bed issues and it's just time to wait it out?

I don't think I would use Fluconzanole for a hair algae problem especially just in the sump. I tried it on my 50 and I suddenly got a different green algae that was just like a coating on everything. It was invasive and wouldn't go away, so I took the tank down and am restarting it with new rock.

Ahh... then maybe a terrible idea.
I was just thinking that it might give the Chaeto a chance to take hold again.

Looooog time no been here! Sorry RF, lotta ups and downs happening in my life. Gratefully things have mellowed. My interest in my tank took the biggest hit and Im slowly coming back. Coral losses hurt the most, especially since I can no longer afford to replace em. Have not boughten a new Coral in over two years, a fish in over a year! Oh my!
The biggest joy is it seems whatever nastiness that was plaguing my sand bed seems to have righted itself with some help from Vibrant tank cleaner. 5wks of 7ml dosing 1x weekly did the trick.
Now I can look at my tank again without crying-lol.

Great to see an update. Happy the sand bed stuff has finally gone. Tank looks great! That clam is getting huge!
