Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Well I did all the cutting and dry fitted my doors together. I would not recommend trying to make a raised panel out of birds eye maple. It did work, however it is going to require a ridiculous amount of sanding tomorrow. With highly figured wood you have to find the right way to cut it w/ a router, In my case one side went well, and the other side had a lot of tear out. Well here is a pic of my stand w/ my good friend rick holding the doors in place for me. Hopefully tomorrow I will get them sanded and glued up. Then I have to figure out what hinges to use. Any good suggestions for doors that fit inside a frame that is flush inside and out w/ a 1/16" gap?

Your stand is beautiful.
Full Rotating hidden cup hinges. I have the jig and you can get them at Rockler in Tukwilla.

Well making progress, Today I got my second overflow made up, and managed to get my closed loop holes drilled. Tomorrow I should get most of the plumbing done, and hopefully get the overflow glued in there. I am also going to try to get started on my new sump tomorrow. Then I am hoping to get water in it this weekend

Well I got going on my plumbing today. The bulkheads are all sch 80 for piece of mind and durability. The top 4 are 3/4" as well as the on the bottom right hand side. These are for my lockline's and my spraybar. I have 2 1.5" bulkheads on the left hand side for my closed loop intake.

Next here is the proposed plumbing. I want some opinions here on to how well it would work like this? I got glue happy and already screwed up the intake side, which will be redone rather cheaply. But I do not want to screw up the output :D I was talking to Jeff and he thought that I should put the ball valve on the upper portion, so that I could put more pressure to the spraybar. I was thinking that there will be a lot of even pressure in the 1.5" manifold all over and I don't want my spraybar to suck up too much of my flow. I am now planning on changing it around a little, and having a ball valve on both sides of it, so I can fine tune it to my liking either way. So what do you guys think?

Well Last night I worked late and got the plumbing nearly completed, but I think I may have had too many beers because I didn't think enough about plumbing from my manifold to my pump. I drilled a hole thru my stand that was a little too far back and this made it more difficult to attatch my pump. So this morning I sprung out of bed and got back too it. I got my shelf temporarily placed and will have to make a special shim for my pump to mount it at an angle to meet up with the manifold. I temporarily used a rubber sanding block and plumbed her in. I am also in the middle of making my new sump which should be done by tomorrow morning if all goes well. I have been having second thoughts about adding my second overflow that I made. The reason being is that it would take up a lot of precious real estate on the right hand side of the tank I think that i am going to go ahead and test it with just the origional overflow, then make the decision after the leak test. Well here are a few more pix.

This is the manifold ready to go on

this is a pic of the underneath, note the duct tape with out that this stand would just not stay together :D

Looks Great Tom I think you will be happier with the two ball valves so you can tune it the way ya want it. Sorry ya had too many beers but oh well whats that Law again (Murphey's)

Just get some water moving in it so I can decide if I wanna plumb in a spraybar on mine too

Jeff

Well guys after a very busy weekend plumbing and sump making here it is being tested w/ freshwater. Well it didn't leak!!! So now I am adding a couple more shims because the floor isn't level, and making some rodi to fill 'er up! I am hoping that on my next day off I will be transfering (thursday) Here are a couple shots

Whoooah! Nice, very nice. Seeing all these tanks going up is driving me mad, got to get working on my tank... have to... need to.

Your new set-up looks really awesome Tom. Keep us posted.

Thanks Neil,

Here is a updated full tank shot. My new rocks are still cycling, so once they are done, I will get em in.

Update!

Well Jeff (Stang69) and I stuffed in another 50lbs of LR today. I am kinda happy, but it may be subject to another rescape, who knows. I am going to leave it for a week or so, and then decide if I am going to keep it or change it.

Hey thanks CurvBall! I am pretty proud of my tank:D So as far as flow goes I think that it is pretty good. I honestly had a whole lot of people tell me that the ampmaster is way too much for my 90. I kept telling them that there is no way that would be too much! Well I will tell you that it is not too much, or even close to being so. I love the amount of flow that I have, and don't think that it would hurt to have even more. Right now I am looking at about 40x a hour total circulation. Once I get back from Cally in September I will be adding a 1" sea-swirl right in the middle to give me more alternating current.

How is your setup coming?
